Various users within our organisation have advised they are unable to "create a copy" of any document within SharePoint/OneDrive.
They use the web version of Word/Excel/File Explorer and usually go "File" then "Save a copy" on a variety of templates they use daily to duplicate the document to a location of their choice.
Since yesterday this is resulting in the following error "there was a problem creating a copy of this file. Please try again in some time." This only happens when creating a copy to a location other than its own directory (which works fine).
I thought it might be permissions related or file path/name related so I tried the same using my own Microsoft account with the same templates and it's doing the same.
Anyone else also started experiencing this issue recently?

I have experienced the same issue since yesterday, prior to this we where able to copy excel documents whilst in the file to another sharepoint library
We are also having the same issue, this is Company wide across different departments. It started with one user yesterday but now is the whole company.
We are also having this issue since today.
We are experiencing the same issue among multiple of our clients.
+1 to those having this issue. I can confirm if the staff go to the Excel web version for example, open with desktop and go to Save a copy that way, it does work.
+1 to the issue as well; multiple users with this issue...please fix.
+1 we are having the same issue, too.
A little more information regarding this...
User is trying to "Save a copy" to another folder within the same Team and Channel via Excel. Copy will not save with the above error mentioned in OP. If user attempts to save a copy within the folder the original document is in, the "Save a copy" feature works. Same issue both via Desktop and Web app.
Issue persists across all Teams and Channels, even newly created Teams. Some users report it still works for them, but no restart has been applied to either Teams or the devices themselves.
We are having the same issue; it is happening to all users that use Excel online

We are also experiencing the same issue.
Same issue here. Asked a colleague to try as well and she gets the same message.
I have found a work around for the moment.
Our organization is having the same issues.
We are having the same issue. I have followed the steps provided and can answer some of the questions. This is affecting all users.
Our process: Open document, Select File > Create a Copy, modify title and save within the same Sharepoint but different file.
All browsers have been used to help narrow if it was a browser issue. It is an error that is happening across users at different locations.
I’m experiencing the same issue. The Exchange administrators have applied all the necessary permission changes, but the problem persists when the SharePoint Excel file is open. If I use “Create a copy” within the same folder, it works as expected. However, if I try to copy the file to a different location, it fails. Interestingly, if I first create a copy in the original folder, close the Excel file, and then move that copy to another location, the move or copy operation succeeds.
I am seeing this in my supported users
For the work-around, my organization does not use the desktop version. I only have access to the online version. I've noticed this same issue when trying to "create a copy" in Word.
Our company's users of the web version of Microsoft Word have also started encountering this recently introduced bug this week as well. We're hoping it will be fixed by the start of the new year.
Same issue for a large number of my users.
It appears to be occurring on docx files.
If users open in Desktop App they are able to save, but not if opening via Sharepoint web version of Word.

We're having the same issue. Workaround for us was to create a copy in the same directory as original, then move it to the problematic location.
No one in my entire company can create an online copy unless they are already the owner of that file. We are now having to local download and reupload every to device or user that needs to edit a form. This is eating away at our time and local memory space. Please fix this or at least give us customers an update
+1
Happening to everyone in my company right now as well, including myself despite being an owner and admin.
I can confirm the 2 "workarounds" seem to work for everyone:
Is there any update? This problem still exists.
To add more context - we have already been doing the workaround of saving the file locally, making the edits, and then uploading - but this is an unnecessary step which is slowing my users down.
When we open the file in one SharePoint location, and try to save it into another, we are met with this error. Clearly with all the reports on this, it would point to an issue on Microsoft's side. I'm not seeing this as an issue reported in the M365 Admin Service Health section either.
Experiencing the same issue on non-corporate account.
