Like the Building Blocks.dotx, the .thmx files in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 15 appear to be only those installed by the Office installer. Others that are used by the programs are
in the user’s roaming profile, in %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates\LiveContent\15\User\Document Themes\1033 and in %appdata%\Microsoft
Templates\LiveContent\15\Managed\Document Themes\1033 (or whatever LCID corresponds to your locale). The ones in the “Managed” hierarchy have names like “TM03090430[[fn=Banded]].thmx”,
which I believe indicates that they’re downloaded from Office.com—and could easily be removed by a bad update.
There’s an interesting list of themes by Office version (both Windows and Mac) on Geetesh Bajaj’s site at
http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/learn/themes/which-themes-are-installed.html.
