How to stop a recurring MS365P subscription

We are trying to stop a recurring annual subscription to Microsoft. We cannot find a place on the MS website to do this. We have tried calling during business hours, and get a recording that they are closed, even though they should be open in any time zone in the US. We think part of the problem might be that my husband has a new email address than what is on the account, and that is also difficult to change. Any suggestions on how to get through to MS to stop this subscription?

First of all, do you know the exact Microsoft 365 product you referenced here?

Microsoft 365 is a very broad term, within it, there's Microsoft 365 basic, personal, family for example on the consumer side, then there's Microsoft 365 business basic, standard, premium for example on the commercial side.

To manage them the instructions are different and the account used to log in is also different, support path is also different..

So it would be very helpful if you know which Microsoft 365 product you have so I can direct you to the right place.

Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

To stop or process a cancellation, you need to log in to the account tied to the subscription:

    Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Look for the Microsoft 365 subscription you have.

Click Manage > select Cancel, then follow the prompts to refund the subscription.

Note: If there is no option for a refund, you may reach Microsoft Accounts and Billing support by following the steps below:

    Go to this link: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact

In the search bar, type in your issue, then hit Enter.

Scroll down to the bottom and select the blue button "Contact Support"

For a Microsoft 365 Personal/Family recurring subscription, the self-service path is:

    1. Sign in to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services using the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
    2. Find the subscription and select Manage.
    3. Select Turn off recurring billing.
    4. Follow the prompts and confirm with I don't want my subscription.
    5. The subscription remains usable until the expiry date shown; turning off recurring billing stops future charges, not immediate access.

If Manage does not appear, the common supported reasons are:

    • Already on the subscription details page.
    • Signed in with the wrong Microsoft account.
    • The subscription was purchased through a third-party billing partner or retailer, in which case that seller must manage cancellation and billing changes.

If the page shows Turn on recurring billing instead, recurring billing is already off and no further cancellation action is required. The subscription will expire on the date shown and will not renew.

If the subscription shows Expired, it has already ended. If no Renew or Resubscribe option appears, the subscription may no longer be available.

About the changed email address: cancellation must be done from the Microsoft account that originally purchased the subscription. If access to that account is no longer available, the available guidance is that self-service cancellation is not possible without signing in to that account. In that situation, the practical next step is to work through the original seller if they set it up, or contact the card issuer/bank to stop recurring charges while account access is being resolved.
