Hi,

Please note that here in the Microsoft Q&A forum, we are fellow users and do not have account access.

Unfortunately, Microsoft 365 subscriptions can only be cancelled by signing in to the Microsoft account where the subscription was created.

If the store set it up for you and you don’t have the email password, you won’t be able to cancel it yourself.

Even if you contact Microsoft Support, they cannot directly cancel the subscription without you first passing full account verification and gaining access to the account. Without that, they are also limited.

Your best next step is to contact the store where the computer was purchased and ask them to remove or cancel the subscription they set up. You should also contact your bank or card provider to stop the recurring charges while this is being resolved.

Follow these steps to stop the recurring Microsoft 365 charges and get live help.

    1. Determine who is billing the subscription
      • If the store signed up Microsoft 365 during purchase, the subscription may be through a third-party retailer (for example, the store itself, or Apple/Google if activated on a device).
      • If it was purchased with recurring billing from a third-party retailer, cancellation and billing must be handled by that retailer directly.
      • Guidance: “If you purchased a Microsoft 365 subscription with recurring billing from a third-party retailer instead of the Microsoft Store, contact the third-party retailer directly to cancel your subscription.”
    2. Try self-cancellation through Microsoft (if it was purchased from Microsoft) Since the email for the account is known but the password is not:
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and use the email address that is being billed.
      • Use account recovery ("Forgot password") to regain access to that Microsoft account.
      • After signing in, under Services & subscriptions, find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
      • If Manage is available, select it, then choose Cancel or Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
      • If instead of Manage it shows Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not be charged again.
    3. If cancellation options do not appear If there is no option to cancel or turn off recurring billing, follow these troubleshooting checks:
      • Confirm the correct account is used: “Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft personal account that purchased Microsoft 365.”
      • If the subscription was purchased from a third-party (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) or via Google Play/Apple App Store, contact that provider’s customer support to cancel or request a refund.
      • If there is an overdue balance on the payment card, pay the overdue amount first; cancellation is blocked while money is owing.
    4. Speak with a live Microsoft support agent If self-cancellation is not possible or account recovery fails, contact Microsoft Support directly:
      • Go to Contact Microsoft Support.
      • Sign in if prompted (use any Microsoft account; the agent can then work with billing details).
      • Enter the problem (for example, “Charged for Microsoft 365 I didn’t authorize and can’t access the account”) and select Get Help.
      • If more help is needed, select Contact Support to be routed to the best support option (chat or call-back with a live agent).
    5. If the subscription was clearly created by the store without consent
      • Contact the store’s customer service or billing department, explain that Microsoft 365 was added without permission, and request cancellation and refund.
      • If the store used its own reseller or third-party channel, they are responsible for managing that subscription.
    6. Important notes about cancellation
      • When a Microsoft 365 subscription is cancelled, storage limits revert to the free allowance and may affect OneDrive and Outlook.com usage.
      • If the subscription is cancelled and more than the free allowance is used, new file uploads/sync and sending/receiving email may be blocked until storage is reduced.

If none of the above paths work, use the guided support for subscription issues:

    • Go to the “Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription” guided support link: Start and follow the prompts to reach an agent.
