This was working fine yesterday (12/31/25) but today, all day long when I click "Refresh All" I am getting the error:

Microsoft Excel - Sorry, our server is temporarily having problems. We're working to fix it.

The data types I have in my spreadsheet are "Stocks"

Under the ribbon it says COULDN'T REFRESH DATA TYPES Sorry, our server is temporarily having problems. We're working to fix it.

Yes, I am connected to the internet, no issues there.

Is this a problem I need to do something to fix or wait until Microsoft fixes it? It has been doing this for at least 8 hours.

Thanks for sharing the details! Have you tried to sign out of Excel, then sign back in?

    • Open Excel
    • Go to File → Account
    • Click Sign out
    • Close Excel completely
    • Reopen Excel → Sign back in
    • Try Refresh All

Also, disable VPN / firewall filtering (even if internet works)

The Stocks data type connects to Microsoft/Bing endpoints that VPNs and security software often block.

If you've done all of these, proceed with the steps below.

If Excel is pulling from a region that’s partially down, switching region forces a new endpoint.

    File → Options → Language

    Set Office display language to:

    • English (United States)

    Restart Excel

    Refresh Stocks

    You can switch back afterward.

See if these help. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

It seems that you are experiencing an issue with refreshing data types in Excel, specifically with the "Stocks" data type. The error message you are receiving indicates that there may be a temporary problem with the server that Excel relies on to fetch this data. This is a common issue that can occur due to server outages or maintenance on Microsoft's end.

Since you mentioned that your internet connection is stable, the best course of action is to wait for Microsoft to resolve the server issues. Typically, these problems are temporary and are resolved by Microsoft without requiring any action on your part. You can check the Microsoft 365 service status page for updates on any ongoing issues.

If the problem persists for an extended period, you might consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
