Why are you forcing Clipchamp Users to use OneDrive or else they lose everything? Doesn't that feel a little bit inconsiderate and just further hurts your image?

Ben Moss 80

I get that you want people to use OneDrive, but the nicest thing you ever did was making the use of OneDrive OPTIONAL, the Keyword here being OPTIONAL. But then after seeing the most recent update you made for Clipchamp, you've basically declared that it's no longer an Option to not use OneDrive for it or else everybody risks all of their Hardwork getting deleted just because they refused to upload everything to the Cloud, which I'm sure a lot of folks on here don't like doing or didn't want to use the Cloud to begin with. So why are you basically holding Clipchamp Users at Gunpoint with this unnecessary and rather hostile change to the Application?

MS are nothing but greedy corporate bastards thinking they can just do whatever they want. sorry MS but you don't have this complacent society you dream about where you can just milk money under every excuse you can make. I paid for my windows license, clip champ came with the windows package. One Drive is NOT essential. Videos are edited there, stored locally and then uploaded to sites like tiktok, youtube, sometimes even instagram. Then the videos are deleted from local storage... One Drive might be beneficial in some respects but not for editing videos, costs more money than its worth, and its worth nothing when I can just go and pay a one time fee to use things like sony vegas.

I literally cannot believe this. This is unbelievable even for Microsoft. I used ClipChamp all the time and now because I don't use OneDrive (because when I first got my PC, I didn't understand it and so sadly ended up with a nightmare scenario of tons of double files, some on OneDrive, some on my PC. Stuff wouldn't save properly. It was a living nightmare I can't even explain, I had to format and reset my PC and then get rid of OneDrive) I can't use ClipChamp? How is this an update or improvement? They've literally disabled the app for me just because I don't use OneDrive. This is unreal. I'm actually in shock

I have several Terabytes of high resolution photos and videos in up to 8K resolution. I used to use clipchamp to easily get some films together fast for social media.

Microsoft has now killed Clipchamp for any even half serious use.

Firstly the bandwith will not handle working in the cloud. I have gigabit Internet but video-editing on the cloud??? Seriously? I use several fast MVM SSD tiered with slower SSD and huge hard drives. Today I downloaded a small workset of 156 pictures and videos from Onedrive to work on. It took an half hour to an hour to get the files off Onedrive so I even could browse files. Onedrive is far too slow to even be useful for browsing this small workset and this is on a gigabit connection...

Some days I produce large worksets of 2000-3000 pictures and films in one day. No professional IT person would ever consider working with video over the Internet seriously. And what about working on video on an airplane? Even if you would have Internet on a plane, it would be very slow. Now it is impossible to work on planes, buses or trains.

Secondly forcing personal content to Microsoft clouds in an AI-era raises serious questions to why? Where is the bullet proof legal document that prohibits Microsoft from using personal OneDrive content to train their AI?

Microsoft is, again, killing itself for being useful or meaningful as they did with outlook trying to force individuals to store all their personal mails on Onedrive. A good thing with all this is that I get to get my Linux skills updated...

I have been a Microsoft fan for decades, but Microsoft is doing a good job on pushing me away.

Best regards

It's funny. I tried to update the comments below but it makes me go through a sign in loop. Probably because all the comments are negative. The recent changes are making me really consider canceling the 365 monthly on top of anything else microsoft related. Was better when you paid for it directly, now it's awful. What should take like 2 hrs is now at least doubled because you have to restart clipchamps and wait for the buffering nonsense. Also still doesn't really use the cloud it uses local storage so you have to reset the app in settings after each video.

GARBAGE UPDATE.

Unsubscribed, and will uninstall completely if nothing changes.

Besides that, now it claims I'm overusing cloud storage, and harassing me to I purchase more when I'm using .01

GB? I couldnt care less about using the Cloud. I dont need it and never have.

I have a computer, and files, and didnt ask to store my personal work on YOUR platform.

Ignorant and disrespectful management of an update.

Frankly, I hope most, if not all users unsubscribe.

Not to mention, the uploads are becoming more crappy, blurry and distorted, even when settings are at 1080p+

The only reason any application could possibly be restricted to using a cloud service is so that the application can be funded from cloud server subscriptions. My internet bandwidth isn't really compatible with storing videos in the cloud. So ClipChamp is going to have to take a running jump as far as I'm concerned.

I've been trying since February to try to take advantage of the COMPLIMENTARY YEAR of Microsoft 365 that was offered through Clipchamp when they decided to change their system and make you save everything to the cloud. I decided it was what I HAD to do seeing as all my projects for the past few years of using Clipchamp was being held hostage. I was finally tried to go ahead and do it myself seeing as nobody would help me or even get back to me.

When I tried to do this I was given a prompt to cancel my current Clipchamp subscription in order to take advantage of the free year of 365. I did this and following the steps I was only being offered a MONTH free trial.

I contacted Microsoft AND Clipchamp countless times and was finally told that because I cancelled my subscription I was not longer qualified. I tried to explain how I only cancelled it because I was prompted to in order to take advantage of the deal THEY offered! I've spoke with COUNTLESS people via phone, email AND chat where I just keep getting bounced around while they all just passed the buck.

At this point I'm pretty convinced it was just ANOTHER scam offered by Microsoft while they hold my projects hostage and I'm still sitting with NOTHING as they wont honour their offer...

Do yourself a favour and find a better video editing software because Clipchamp will just let you down in the end and there really is better out there!

I'm beyond disappointed and feeling scammed after wasting MONTHS of my time begging to get what was offered to me!

Hi Ben Moss,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing your thoughts about the recent changes to Clipchamp.

From what I’ve seen, the idea behind the change is to make sure projects don’t get lost. Saving to OneDrive means if your computer crashes or files get deleted, you’ve got a backup ready to go. It also makes it easier to pick up your work on another device. But of course, that doesn’t help if you’re someone who prefers to keep control of files locally.

I think the trade‑off is reliability versus flexibility. The cloud integration is meant to protect work, but it does take away the option of staying fully offline. That’s the part that feels restrictive, and you’re not alone in pointing it out. One thing that can really help is leaving feedback directly through the Clipchamp app. That way, the product team sees it and knows how these changes are landing with users.

I know this is not what you’ve expected, but I hope this adjustment does not cause significant inconvenience and that you are able to adapt to it smoothly.

Thank you for a pretty clear and honest answer. You're right in hoping this adjustment does not cause significant inconvenience, but I am not going to hold my breath.

While I will try my best to work with this unnecessary update, I'm still going to show my disdain for it alongside the others who wish for it to be rolled back, or at least just give us the Option to turn OFF OneDrive Storage for Clipchamp, because I do not want to be toggling "save to the cloud" off, every time I export a Video.

There's only so much time I can waste or spend dealing with trivial stuff, this shouldn't be one of them.

Not only was I forced to update to the new version and use OneDrive, but in doing so, all of my projects were lost. I see all of the folders in OneDrive with many duplicates but they are all empty. Now I need to waste even more time to undo the way it is set up and take my chances of saving anything new, if I continue to use it, to a local drive.
Thanks again Microsoft.

Sorry, but clip champ offers two exporting options... Cloud OR hard/external drive. Set factor that should not have changed its aspects in any shape or form. No user appreciates being forced to revert to an unwanted cloud exportation they do not or will never use - bottom line. Bad move from Microsoft.

It should not be ClipChamp's job to enforce file backups. It is easy to have it be a feature that is on by default, but you should be able to opt-out. What if I don't want to use OneDrive? I now have to find another product. Even for people like me who DO use OneDrive, there are so many issues.

The Desktop app is now unusable if you don't create the project from there. I see no avenue for opening a project created by another user unless they directly share it with me through OneDrive and it appears in the "Shared" list. My own projects don't show up in My Files of the desktop app most of the time. I have no way to browse to them either locally. When I click the file location, it opens OneDrive in a browser. Click the project file from there and it opens in the browser, not the desktop. I don't want this. The web version sometimes has broken or missing features that are only in Desktop.

On top of all this, when a project is open, ClipChamp doesn't show the full location. When I copy files and projects around, it's difficult to know if you're in the right place. The location always shows [User's Name] > [Project Name] and nothing about the folders in between.

I get trying to make it for dumbies, but this was a useful program for people who are computer literate, and now it is not. As a software developer, I'm astonished at these UX decisions and I am currently looking for an alternative program. Not out of principal, but simply because it's not usable. I've wasted so much time trying to figure out how to get projects open and files in the right place.

To hide behind the guise of "we are forcing this feature to ensure you have backups in case your computer crashes" is entirely laughable. If you want to offer a backup feature, sure; but to completely force it and leave no way to use an alternative? This is a complete joke. Files are now stored in one drive so now I have Export on Clipchamp, then go to OneDrive, download as a zip, and then extract locally? Clipchamp projects are stored on one drive, so when I go to open them it takes me to a web browser with the file and then what? I can't open the project file directly from the web browser; so I have to download the whole thing?
This is an abhorrent user experience; whoever pushed this through DID NOT have the customer's experience in mind. They had the pure goal of forcing OneDrive down our throats; never once considering that we may have our own workflows and backup procedures. I am uninstalling clipchamp and finding an alternative. Absolute joke of a company.

There is no trade-off. A trade-off requires two options. There was a trade-off when we could choose. The worst part is you did not let me log in one last time to export the projects that were nearly complete. All I have is a bunch of useless .clipchamp files. You did not even warn me. You have been trying to coerce me into using OneDrive for years. I have to assume you will do this again. One day we will log in to Windows and be forced to either upload everything to OneDrive or lose all our data. I hate Apple products with a passion but now I have no choice. I cannot allow you to destroy my work. Goodbye Microsoft

Nothing like some good ol' fashion Microsoft gaslighting.

The idea is to make sure my project files don't get lost? What does this even mean? You know we're all grown adults with functioning brains... Right? How would not saving it to OneDrive (WHICH I DON'T USE BECASUE OF HOW NIGHTMARISH AND CONFUSING IT IS) means my projects would "get lost"? You think that all of my others files I save on my own drive just "get lost" because they're not on my OneDrive? What. Are. You. Talking. About? What?

I don't USE a OneDrive. So you're saying I will lose all of my files lol? What point do you think you're making here? And now instead of "losing them" on my C or D drive, I don't even get to have them POINT BLANK PERIOD AT ALL LOL. Even if I was at risk of losing them for some unexplainable reason (I'm not. My files are fine) because I saved them on my drive instead of OneDrive, at least I'd be able to HAVE them in the first place!? Now because I don't use OneDrive, I CAN'T HAVE THEM AT ALL. Wow. This is ridiculous. You guys need to revert this immediately. This is ABSURD. This is beyond gatekeeping nonsense this is literally just essentially disabling a program I used all the time on my Windows PC.

This has to 100% be corporate greed in action. There's no way anyone at Microsoft thought this would be a good useful update. I can't believe this. I really genuinely can't believe this. You guys do some really heinous things, but this is really malicious and sick. Wow. Just wow.

Terry 25 Reputation points

2026-03-04T07:47:58+00:00

THAT'S NOT A TRADE OFF. I LITERALLY CANNOT USE THE APP NOW. You essentially have disabled it on my PC. A trade off would mean you are trading one thing for another. This is not a trade off, you just disabled the app lol. The greed behind this decision is actually astonishing. It's actually hard to believe this is real. I'm imagining what you're gonna do next. Ban saving ANYTHING to my PC? Ban me from putting stuff on my desktop? What else are you going to ban us from because we don't use OneDrive? OneDrive is a NIGHTMARE. I deleted it after having to format my PC a long time ago because I didn't realize what it was when I first got my PC. Oh my God, what a brutal nightmare that whole situation was. I can't believe you're not letting me use OneDrive because you want me to save my files to OneDrive so I don't lose them? How is that a real sentence. How could you think this makes any logistical sense? "We're worried about you losing your files, so we made it so you can't use it at all" basically. Now I can't even lose my files because there's no files to lose lol because I CAN'T USE THE PROGRAM AT ALL. Why are you guys like this????????? How can you genuinely be this way??????????????

Totally stupid. No half serious IT person would ever consider video editing over the Internet. I have gigabit Internet and Onedrive is soooo Sloooow it is not even useful for browsing my files in file explorer without first downloading them off Onedrive to a local disk. Then video editing???? I am absolutely furious with Clipchamp right now. I've been using ClipChamp for YEARS!! Because of the way the app now handles storage and OneDrive integration, I have just lost all of my projects — hours of work gone with no warning, no backup, and no way to recover them. This is completely unacceptable.

I already knew my OneDrive was full, I haven't used it in years. But now Clipchamp suddenly wants to save projects there anyway. Instead of respecting my choice to save locally, the app silently tied my projects to OneDrive and then let them disappear when storage ran out.

This experience has destroyed my trust in the product. I will NOT be renewing my subscription when it expires in five days. I refuse to pay for a service that puts my work at risk and gives me no control over where my files are stored.

Fix your storage system. Give users true local‑save options. And stop letting the app wipe out people’s work because of OneDrive conflicts for greed! I'm NOT buying more storage instead I'll just buy a new app!! 🤬

No offense Zoevi-V, but Clipchamp OneDrive backup was available from the start----as an OPTION.
Microsoft forcing users to export ONLY that cloud, was the mistake. It totally BRICKED the UI, causing numerous upheaps including bugged open and exportation LOSING user saved files, Microsoft ignored, or simply didn't care. Hence the faulty ?/ chat option that never worked.

Clipchamp went from a trusted alternate editing source to unusable Cloud based trash that upset too many users, who'd since switched to other editors. Which is unfortunate--because I too, had once been a proud user who's platform STILL READS 'issues with your Cloud exportation and storage' blah blah that Support never followed up to resolve.

I'm sorry, I can understand the desire to make sure projects don't get lost, but its not anyone else's choice where I store my data. Denying the ability to even edit locally saved projects is nothing short of Microsoft forcing user to pay more for storage when we likely already have TERABYTES of storage on our local PC, WITH BACKUP! This is an unacceptable change, and it needs to be reversed.
