I have another office 365 account where all of a sudden to day it is stuck in a MFA loop. the final message is: "Contact your admin You are required to register an authentication method to continue but none have been enabled for this account. Contact your admin for help"

This message comes after i have input a number on the Authenticator app on my phone.

Also I am unable to access or log into my account to make any changes to my settings. i have tried everything i can think of

Hello  @Michael Snow

Welcome to the Q&A Community!

Thank you for reaching out. The message you’re seeing , “You are required to register an authentication method to continue but none have been enabled for this account”, indicates that your organization has enforced Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), but no authentication methods have been enabled for your account. This prevents you from completing the sign-in process.

Since you cannot access your account to make changes, this issue requires administrator intervention. Kindly contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and ask them to enable at least one authentication method (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, SMS).

If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your organization, you can find guidance on locating them here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Please have your administrator follow the steps shown in the following article: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multi-factor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID …

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least an Authentication Administrator.
  2. User > all user.  Select the user you want to act on, and select Authentication methods. User's image

Please let me know if there are any further concerns or if you need more assistance. I am happy to help!

I had the same problem. It's definitely a bug. I have 2FA, SMS and Phone enabled for MFA methods. The problem is when those are the only 3 methods you've allowed, it won't be able to select another method.

My solution: When it asks you to "find another way to make sure it's you", instead of entering your password again, you select "sign in with a different account" and then use the same email address, it will sometimes let you in.

    Best of luck!

i was thinking of deleting the profile (they recommended not) of that specific account on my authenticator? because they reset my MFA i scan the QR code it tells me i already have that account and so the loop goes on. it has been a week now where i can't get into anything.
