E-mail addresses disappear in the New Outlook when I reply or forward an e-mail

I have a problem with the New Outlook when I reply or forward an e-mail. Let me describe how the New Outlook hides e-mail address.

Let's say I receive an email with this structure:

From: Person1 (Person1 email address)

Sent: To: Myself (my email address)

Cc: Person2 (Person2 email address); Person3 (Person3 email address); Person4 (Person4 email address)

When I hit "Reply", "Reply all" or "Forward", the text in the e-mail body which quotes this email is being re-formatted and shows the following:

From: Person1
Sent: To: Myself
Cc: Person2; Person3; Person4

So the New Outlook cuts or hides the e-mail addresses of the Sender and Recipients. The recipients of my email will not be able to reply to specific people in the e-mail thread because the New Outlook hides the addresses. I have tried to reinstall the app and reset the New Outlook settings, but it didn't help.

This was a known issue, and its been fixed in the following builds in Production for our users. If you don't see these builds in your new Outlook, you'll see these soon, within a week or two at most. We release new builds in production every week.

    Good morning,

Replying to add some additional weight to the issue. We're having the exact same issue here. Force updated outlook as well. I just had an agent via outlook support try to convince me this could be by design.

"We believe this to be a new change in design, however, to get more clarity and confirmation on the same, looped the Product Engineering team."

I can't imagine they would do something like this given someone could no longer see who was involved in an email chain.

Hoping to see an official reply here as outlook support seems dodgy at best.

    Thank you.

    Dan

    Hi PullmanZV,

Good day. Hope you are doing well.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I understand that the issue is specific to the new Outlook desktop client. May I know what is the version of new Outlook that you are using? (Settings > General > About Outlook)

Furthermore, please kindly confirm whether the issue happen to all the emails that you have received.

Next, please kindly check whether this registry key is set on your computer for the new Outlook client.

    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options

    DisableEmailAddressesInReplyHeaders

If so, please kindly change the value DWORD:1 to 0.

If the issue persists, since it is only happening in the new Outlook desktop client, and Microsoft has a dedicated in-app technical support team, it is suggested to open a support request directly by going to Help > Support. Microsoft's back-end support team can check the advanced logs and investigate the situation further. Due to the limited permissions and access resources of our community moderators, we are unable to collect certain types of registration information in public forums for this reason and for the privacy of our users' data.

Thank you for your precious time and kind understanding.

    Sincerely,

    Roger Shen

    Thanks for your reply, Roger,

    1. I'm using M365 work account
    2. The issue doesn't happen in Outlook Web
    3. My emails are composed in HTML format. However, I've just tried Plain Text, and the issue persists with this option as well.

    Hi PullmanZV

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

I am truly sorry for the inconvenience this issue has caused you. Based on the description, I understand that you have an issue with new Outlook when you reply/forward an email. When composing the reply/forward message, the email body hides the original message's sender/recipient email address that it quotes.

To further clarify the issue, please kindly confirm the following information.

    1. Are you using a M365 work/school account, a Microsoft personal account(hotmail.com/live.com/outlook.com), or a 3rd-party email provider account?
    2. Does the same issue happen in Outlook on the web as well?
    3. Please kindly confirm whether the email message is composed in HTML or Plain Text format. (Settings > Mail > Compose and reply)

Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Roger Shen
