Microsoft Edge stuttering on Windows 11 24H2

Windows 11 - Back in November, I have update my system to 24H2 version and, after it, I noticed that Edge (the browser that I use the most) was behaving very weird, like some kind of stuttering.

It happens when the hardware acceleartion is enabled; at first, the general usage (but mainly scrolling) feels normal, but after a few minutes it starts slowing, and then stutters a lot (by scrolling some web pages, which is the most noticeable way to identify).

It is fixed by disabling hardware acceleration.

Win 11 24H2 with KB5050094 installed: Microsoft Edge slow, laggy, mouse stuttering. No settings or repairs helped; however, installing Edge Beta Version 133.0.3065.31 (Official build) beta (64-bit) restored perfect performance - and note, Edge Version 132.0.2957.127 (Official build) (64-bit) continues to exhibit poor performance. See the Beta download page. Hope this helps someone - drove me crazy.

I have a very similar issue. After doing some digging, I found out a lot of LiveKernelEvent 141, 116, 117 in the Windows Applications Event Log when Edge is working with GPU acceleration. Although these error may indicate critical GPU, PSU or memory issues and often trigger BSOD, this does not crash my system and does not appear in the system viability index. It just really lead to stutter. It’s also not triggered outside edge, or when edge run without Hardware acceleration. Meanwhile, I’m off to the Firefox or Chromelands with hardware acceleration activated.

I’m using a Optimus laptop with intel chip (i7-11800h) and nvidia 3080 mobile in case of anything.

In other words, Microsoft puts out **** that is not ready for prime time. I have had so many issues with 24h2 specific to a system with integrated graphics. It is a joke an seriously making me consider the switch to MacOS.

    Hello,

So, my hardware at the moment is fully update, as I regularly look for new updates.

And also, I just discovered that what was causing the issue was a program called Mem Reduct (the program that I use to limit RAM usage), but more specifically the auto-clean function:Image

Disabling it, as shown above, actually fixed the issue.

Yet, I'll leave the GPU logs here:

    Hardware acceleration disabled: about-gpu-2025-01-28T12-04-45-345Z.txt

    Hardware acceleration enabled: about-gpu-2025-01-28T12-07-40-642Z.txt

    Thanks for responding.

Update: I experienced a slight stutter at the moment I edit this reply, but for now it seems to seems to be stable.

2nd update: by the time I'm editing this reply, I'm experiencing stutters; RAM and CPU aren't even bottlenecking.

    Hello Guilherme Albano,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

Based on the description, it seems that the computer is running out of memory. Once the GPU has exhausted the 128 MiB dedicated memory, it will use system memory.

Try closing Edge, and launching it again without restoring the tabs. Does the slowdown disappear?

Also, please right-click Start->Task manager. Is the memory usage near full when the lagging occurs?

If there is no memory issue, there may be an issue with the GPU driver. Please right-click Start->Settings->Windows update. Install all available updates, including the optional ones in advanced options. See whether the issue persists.

If the issue still persists, we need to check the GPU logs. To do so, once Edge stutters, please open abother tab in Edge, and go to "edge://gpu". Select "Download report to file", and upload the file to a file-sharing service (like OneDrive) for our analysis.

We look forward to your response.

    Best Regards,
