Microsoft account hacked after Discord verification scam – original Gmail no longer recognized

Hello,

I need help recovering my Microsoft account, which I believe was compromised through a Discord verification scam.

I was trying to verify my Minecraft account on a Discord server related to Hypixel. The bot asked me to enter my Minecraft username, my Gmail address, and a verification code that I received by email. I entered the code directly into the Discord bot.

Shortly afterward, my Microsoft account in Prism Launcher changed to the status "Errored", and I could no longer access my account.

When I try to sign in, Microsoft offers to send a verification code to an unfamiliar email address ending in @msaccountsafety.com. This is not my email address.

When I try the Microsoft account recovery form using my original Gmail address, Microsoft says that the account does not exist.

I still have access to my Gmail account, and I have proof of purchase for Minecraft Java Edition code.

I have tried the official account recovery options, but they do not work because Microsoft no longer recognizes my original email address.

Could someone from Microsoft please advise me on how to recover my account or direct me to the appropriate recovery process?

Thank you for your help.

I’m sorry you’re going through this issue with your account. In this case, Microsoft support agents are not able to make changes to account information, such as adding or removing details, because those protections are in place to help keep your account private and secure. I understand this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, and I truly appreciate your patience.

The best next step is to complete the account form here; it is not the same as the recovery one: https://aka.ms/recovermyaccount

Once you submit it, your request will be reviewed by the team that handles account recovery situations like this. They will reach out to you by email with the next steps or let you know if they need any additional information to continue helping you.

Use the Microsoft Sign-in Helper first. It is the primary recovery path for sign-in problems and hacked accounts, including cases where the sign-in alias may have been changed and the original address is no longer recognized.

If the original Gmail address returns "The Microsoft account you've entered does not exist", check the spelling carefully. If the spelling is correct, follow the guidance for "My username and password have stopped working" from the Microsoft account recovery guidance.

    If the account was compromised:

    1. Scan the PC for malware before changing anything else.
      • Open Virus and threat protection.
      • Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now.
      • Microsoft recommends a full scan before changing the password.
    2. Try the Sign-in Helper tool again.
      • It can either provide self-help steps or offer the option to talk to an agent.
    3. If recovery form access is still possible, submit the Microsoft account recovery form.
      • Microsoft reviews the answers and responds within 24 hours to the working email address provided in the form.
      • If Microsoft cannot verify the account, the form can be retried up to two times per day.
    4. If verification codes are being sent to an address that is not recognized, verify the sign-in name carefully.
      • Check the full email domain.
      • Check for spelling differences in the account name.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support from another Microsoft account that is still accessible.
      • Go to Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support if needed.

    Important limits from Microsoft:

    • Support agents cannot send password reset links or access and change account details.
    • If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, Microsoft states they cannot help recover the account through support.

For the unfamiliar email domain in messages from Microsoft: Microsoft states that email from the Microsoft account team using the domain @accountprotection.microsoft.com is trustworthy. The domain @msaccountsafety.com is not identified in the provided Microsoft guidance.
