I'm trying to convert my business office 365 account to a nonprofit account. When I enter my business account, it says it's not valid. I am working with someone at my church is there a way we can have him call and follow up on this?

thanks!

    Hi Bobbie,

According to this article "Registration and Validation - Microsoft for Nonprofits | Microsoft Learn", if the church already has an existing Microsoft 365 tenant, the recommended approach is to sign in with a tenant administrator account (onmicrosoft.com, @yourchurch.com,....) and complete the nonprofit registration process through the Microsoft for Nonprofits Hub.

To qualify for Microsoft for Nonprofits, the application must be submitted on behalf of an eligible nonprofit organization using the organization's information. If you're receiving a message that your account is not valid, it may indicate that the account being used is not associated with the organization's Microsoft 365 tenant or that there is an issue with the organization's nonprofit eligibility information.

If you're encountering this error, please make sure you're signing in with the administrator account for the organization's existing Microsoft 365 tenant rather than a personal Microsoft account. I would also recommend confirming that the organization meets the nonprofit eligibility requirements and that the application is being submitted for the existing tenant associated with the nonprofit organization.

For assistance, go to the Microsoft for Nonprofits Contact Us page and start a conversation with the Nonprofit Assistant. If the issue can't be resolved through self-service guidance, you can request that a support ticket be created and routed to the appropriate team for investigation.

Microsoft Support generally needs to work directly with an authorized administrator or representative of the organization. If the church representative is an admin or otherwise authorized to manage the tenant, they can contact Microsoft Support and follow up on the nonprofit enrollment request on behalf of the organization

A business Microsoft 365 account is not converted in place to a nonprofit offer by entering it as a different account type. If the organization already has a Microsoft 365 tenant, the correct path is to register that existing tenant for Microsoft for Nonprofits by signing in with the existing tenant’s admin credentials in the Nonprofit Hub.

    Steps:

    1. Go to the Nonprofit Hub and select Sign in to your Nonprofit Hub.
    2. Sign in with the existing Microsoft 365 tenant admin account.
    3. Complete the nonprofit registration form.
    4. Provide the legal identifier and organization profile information.
    5. Wait for validation. The process typically takes up to 3 days, though it can take longer if more information is needed.

If the sign-in or account is being rejected as not valid:

    • Do not create a new tenant unless an intentional migration is planned.
    • Make sure the church is using the existing tenant’s admin credentials, not a separate personal or home Microsoft account.
    • If domain or contact details changed, update the organizational profile in the Nonprofit Hub.

For follow-up and support, nonprofit-specific support must start online through the Microsoft for Nonprofits Hub:

    1. Go to Contact us in the Nonprofit Hub.
    2. Use the Nonprofit Assistant chat.
    3. If needed, ask the assistant to create a support request.
    4. Review the details and submit the request.
    5. Save the Support Request ID shown after submission.

Phone-based support is not currently available for nonprofit-specific inquiries. All nonprofit support begins through the online form.

If the church is already using a home/family subscription, nonprofit pricing does not apply to that subscription. The organization must apply for nonprofit offers separately through Microsoft for Nonprofits.
