Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Hotmail/Outlook.com can block password reset or verification messages when sign-in activity looks unusual, there have been too many repeated reset or verification attempts, the account is temporarily locked for security reasons, or there is heavy compromised traffic from the current location/network. Verification codes may also fail if the account is blocked due to unusual activity.
What to do:
- Try another verification method already connected to the account, such as an alternate email instead of SMS.
- Switch networks, for example between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or try a different Wi‑Fi network.
- Stop repeated attempts. Repeated requests can extend the block.
- Wait at least 24 hours. If needed, wait longer, up to 1 week, before trying again.
- If the account is blocked, reset the password to unblock it.
- If the username or password is no longer accepted, use account recovery and make sure the email domain is correct, such as
.comvs.co.uk. - If access to security info is lost, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace security info. Changing all security info can restrict the account for 30 days.
