My account says I have used only less than 0.1% out of 1.2 TB but OneDrive says I have exceeded 1390% my storage capacity, how is this possible and is not letting me save anything now in OneDrive, how can you help me to resolve this?

    Hi!

First, verify that the account in the OneDrive app is exactly the same. You might be using an email address that looks the same but is from a different provider, or one with slight differences; this is common. Click the icon next to the sound and internet icons on the taskbar > Cloud icon > Gear icon > Settings > Account.

Then, access the account via your browser at https://onedrive.live.com/ and check if it is the same account.

If it is, there might be a synchronization issue between the app and OneDrive. Try unlinking and relinking the account. In the same Account Settings, click Unlink This PC. This may take a while.

Wait a few minutes, restart your computer and launch lkogin again.

This usually happens when the OneDrive app is signed in with a different account than the one that has the 1.2 TB entitlement, or when OneDrive storage status is out of sync with the actual quota.

    Try this in order:

    1. Verify which account OneDrive is using.
      • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar or menu bar.
      • Open Help & Settings > Settings > Account.
      • Check the signed-in account.
      • Then check the subscription status in the Microsoft account services page and confirm the Microsoft 365 subscription is active for that same account.
    2. Check storage from OneDrive on the web.
      • Sign in to OneDrive on the web.
      • Open Manage your OneDrive storage or Storage metrics.
      • Confirm whether the web view also shows the account as over quota, and check whether any folder or the Recycle Bin is consuming unexpected space.
    3. Empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin if anything is there.
      • Items in the Recycle Bin still count against the storage quota.
      • If storage is genuinely over quota, OneDrive becomes read-only: uploads, edits, and sync of new files are blocked.
    4. Remove any shared folder that may be counting against the account.
      • A shared folder can cause the account to go over storage.
    5. If the correct account has 1 TB+ available online but the desktop app still says storage is exceeded, unlink and relink the OneDrive app.
      • In the OneDrive app, go to Settings > Account > Unlink this PC.
      • Sign in again with the account that has the storage entitlement.
      • This can fix client-side configuration issues.
    6. If the problem continues, reset OneDrive.
      • This resets OneDrive settings and triggers a full sync, which can resolve configuration problems.

Important effects of being over quota:

    • New uploads, edits, and sync are blocked.
    • Existing files remain, but they are read-only.
    • If the account stays over quota for a long period, files may eventually be deleted and become non-recoverable.

If this is a work or school account, an administrator may need to review the OneDrive quota in Microsoft 365 admin center under Users > Active users > select the user > OneDrive tab. If the license supports more storage, the admin can increase the quota there. After the quota is corrected or usage is reduced, SharePoint Online needs some time to reevaluate the site before uploads and edits work again.
