Suddenly Unable to drag and drop to shared mailboxes

Hello. As of build 20260102003, we are unable to drag and drop emails into shared folders that are listed in the favorites group. When doing so, we just get a red circle with a line through it. We can drag and drop to the inbox and folders of the primary users mailbox when they are added to favorites. We can also drag to the shared mailbox folders from their inbox location below favorites, but that is not ideal. I know it has to do with the above version, because the users that were on the previous version didn't have the issue, but as soon as they closed outlook and reopened it, the update now gives them the same behavior. Anyone know of a work around?

Hi @Greg Butler,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum, and thank you for sharing the detailed build information. I can certainly understand how disruptive this is, especially when your team relies on Favorites for managing shared mailboxes efficiently.

Based on feedback from other users running the same New Outlook client version (Client Version: 20260102003.02 / Build 20260102003): New Outlook - Drag and Drop Email to Folder in Favorites not working, this appears to be a recent regression in New Outlook. Specifically, drag‑and‑drop into shared mailbox folders that are pinned under Favorites shows the “not allowed” (red circle) cursor, even though drag‑and‑drop continues to work when targeting those same folders from their original location lower in the folder list. Several users have reported the same behavior, which helps confirm this is likely build‑related rather than an isolated configuration issue.

In the meantime, you may find the following workarounds helpful:

  • Drag and drop from the shared mailbox’s original folder location (outside of Favorites). While less convenient, this does continue to work as expected.
  • Switch temporarily to Classic Outlook, as multiple users have confirmed that this issue does not occur there.

Since this behavior appears tied to the current rollout, the most effective next step is for your Microsoft 365 administrator to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. When doing so, it’s helpful to include:

  • The affected client/build numbers.
  • Confirmation that the issue only affects shared mailbox folders pinned to Favorites.
  • Clear reproduction steps along with screenshots or a short video.

Your IT admin can create a support ticket by sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center following steps from this link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to raise a support ticket from admin center or calling the phone support to contact Microsoft Support: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.

Also, you can look for the way to find your admin through this link: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

In addition, I strongly recommend submitting feedback directly through the Outlook (new) · Community portal so the issue is visible to the product team.

Thanks for the reply. I have submitted feedback. The link is below. In the meantime, they are dragging to the folders below their inbox.

The issue you're experiencing with drag and drop functionality in shared mailboxes after the update to build 20260102003 is a known problem. Unfortunately, there is no specific workaround mentioned in the available context. However, it is important to note that this behavior seems to be related to the recent update, and users have reported similar issues.

You might want to keep an eye on updates from Microsoft regarding this issue, as they may provide a fix in future releases. In the meantime, you can still drag and drop emails to the shared mailbox folders from their inbox location, even though it is not ideal.
