Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac Cannot Activate on macOS Sequoia 15.7.7 – Error 0x0

Hello,

I need help activating Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac.

The product was successfully redeemed and added to my Microsoft account on January 28, 2023. It is still listed under my account as “Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac.”

I am signing in to Office with the same Microsoft account used to redeem the product. However, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint remain unlicensed, and activation fails with “Unknown Error 0x0.”

I have already completed the following troubleshooting:

  1. Completely removed Office and all related license/cache files.
  2. Restarted the Mac and reinstalled Office.
  3. Reinstalled the original Office version 16.69 installer that I downloaded in 2023.
  4. Used the Office License Removal Tool.
  5. Confirmed that com.microsoft.office.licensingV2.helper is installed.
  6. Confirmed that the product key returns TokenAlreadyRedeemedBySameMSA.
  7. Confirmed that Office is signed in with the correct Microsoft account.

The license is visible in my Microsoft account, but Office cannot obtain or activate it.

Please check the backend status of my perpetual Office 2019 for Mac license and refresh or restore the activation entitlement associated with my Microsoft account.

Hello, Unfortunately, the license removal tool will not resolve this particular issue. Starting July 13, 2026, Office 2019 for Mac entered reduced functionality mode because its licensing certificate can no longer be updated. Office may still open documents, but it can no longer activate for editing, saving, or creating files. The 0x0 error is part of that activation failure. Force-quitting Excel did not cause the problem. It likely caused Excel to check the license again, which exposed the certificate issue. Microsoft confirms that Office 2019 for Mac cannot be updated to the required version, and reinstalling Office 2019 will not resolve it. The available options are:

  1. Use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint online for free through Microsoft 365 for the web.
  2. Purchase a supported version such as Office Home 2024.
  3. Subscribe to Microsoft 365.

    My Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac license is permanently linked to my Microsoft account, and the product still appears under my Services & subscriptions.

    Could you please confirm whether this is an official Microsoft policy?

    Is there any official Microsoft article stating that Office Home & Business 2019 for Mac can no longer be activated after July 13, 2026?

    I would really appreciate it if you could provide the relevant Microsoft documentation.
