Dear LAM Sut In,
Thank you for posting your question on the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on the error message you provided, please review the following troubleshooting steps:
1/ Make sure you are signing in with the correct account
Please confirm which account your friend used to share the file:
- Was it shared to your personal Microsoft account (e.g., @outlook.com, @hotmail.com)?
- Or to your work/school account?
If you sign in with a different account than the one that received the sharing invitation, access will fail.
2/ Clear browser cache or remove saved accounts
Browsers sometimes retain old sign-in sessions that can cause authentication conflicts.
Please try accessing OneDrive in an Incognito/InPrivate window first. If it works there, follow these steps:
- Go to: https://login.microsoftonline.com
- Click your profile picture and select Sign out (make sure you are signed out of all Microsoft accounts)
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Restart the browser
- Sign in again using the correct account
3/ Ask your friend to re-share the file
Please ask your friend to share the file again and choose one of the following options:
- Anyone with the link can view (for testing purposes)
- Or share directly to your correct email address under “Specific people”
4/ Conditional Access Policy (Security Block)
If the file is hosted on the organization's site, the issue may be related to organizational policies, including:
- External sharing is disabled by their IT administrator
- Your account is not allowed as a guest user
- A Conditional Access policy is blocking the sign-in attempt
In this case, please ask your friend to:
- Go to the document in OneDrive or SharePoint> Click Share> Open Link settings
- Check whether it is set to “People in your organization only”. If so:
- Change it to “Anyone with the link” (if permitted), or
- Choose “Specific people” and enter your email address
If these options are greyed out, their IT department must enable external sharing.
Additionally, you should confirm whether you received any guest invitation emails. If yes, you must accept the invitation directly from that email and sign in using the exact same email address to which the invitation was sent.
If the issue persists, your friend's IT administrator may also need to verify whether any organizational security policies are blocking access, such as:
- Sign-ins from a certain location
- Sign-ins from unmanaged devices
- Sign-ins without Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.
