• Microsoft’s servers may require phone activation if online activation fails because it detects the key was already used on another Mac.

However, Office 2011 is very old and may not run properly on macOS Catalina (10.15) or later, because these versions of macOS only support 64-bit apps, and Office 2011 is 32-bit.

If your new Mac has macOS 10.15 or later, Office 2011 won’t run at all. You would need to upgrade to a newer Office version (Office 2019 or Microsoft 365).
