I'm using Microsoft Surface Pro 11, equipped with a Surface Pro Keyboard (8X6-00182-NP). Recently the keyboard cannot be properly connected. I often have to detach it and then re-attach it to get the keyboard connected. When attached, I fold the top edge of the keyboard to stick it to the bottom bezel of the screen, and the keyboard loses connection (originally the keyboard should be kept connected).

    Hi MK LEUNG,

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly.

I can see that your locale is currently set to zh‑CN, but I’ll continue assisting you in English for now. Please feel free to let me know if you’d prefer to switch to Chinese at any point.

Before looking at hardware, it’s a good idea to rule out the software side first.

You can start by checking for updates through Settings > Windows Update and installing everything available, including optional driver updates. It’s also worth opening the Surface app to make sure the latest firmware is installed, as this directly affects how the keyboard communicates with the device.

Next, you can try refreshing the keyboard driver. Open Device Manager, expand Keyboards (or Human Interface Devices), locate the Surface Type Cover device, right‑click it and select Uninstall device, then restart your Surface. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver when it boots back up.

You may also want to perform a full shutdown to reset the firmware layer. Shut the device down completely, then press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds before turning it back on. This helps clear low-level glitches that a normal restart doesn’t.

If you want to further isolate whether this is related to Windows, you can test the keyboard in the UEFI environment. Turn the Surface off, then press and hold the volume‑up button while pressing the power button. In that screen (before Windows loads), try adjusting or slightly bending the keyboard. If the same issue happens there, it confirms the problem is not software-related.

If you have access to another Surface keyboard, trying it can also help quickly isolate whether the problem is with your keyboard or the device itself.

If this turns out to be a hardware-related issue, it would be best to submit a repair request or bring your device to a nearby authorized service provider for further inspection. As forum contributors, we don’t have access to device diagnostics, repair tools, or warranty information, but the official support team can assist you further with service options if needed.

Hope this helps and feel free to share what you find after trying these steps.
