Me and several of our users have been having this problem on HP laptops with Windows 10 and 11. When trying to turn off the computer with the "Shut down" option in the Start menu, it gets stuck on "Shutting down" with the fans still running, sometimes for more than 40 minutes. The only way we've been able to properly turn them off is by pressing and holding the power button.

We've tried to fix it by installing new BIOS drivers from HP, and this solved the issue for a few days, but now this fix has stopped working for several users. We would like a more permanent solution to make sure this problem doesn't come back or cause more issues.

Update to this problem: the only permanent solution we found was to stop and disable a number of HP Analytics services in the Services Manager. These services were 'HP Analytics Service', 'HP Audio Analytics' and 'HP App Helper HSA Service'. It also helped to disable Fast Startup in the Registry Editor. These solutions helped make it possible to shut the computers down in a few seconds.

    Hi,

No, it takes a long time even without any apps or tasks open. However, I think the current situation is workable and we should be able to handle it despite the slight additional difficulties. Thank you very much for the help and advice.

    Kind Regards,

    E.W.
