Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

According to Microsoft’s documentation, OneDrive for Business Plan 2 will no longer be renewed, and tenants that do not transition to an eligible licensing model may eventually have their OneDrive environments placed in read-only mode.

We currently have five OneDrive for Business Plan 2 licenses. Our current storage usage is as follows:

  • Two users are currently consuming more than 20 TB of OneDrive storage each.
  • The remaining three users are consuming less than 5 TB each.

Considering the upcoming licensing changes, we would appreciate your guidance on the most appropriate replacement licensing model for our environment.

Our main objective is to ensure that the two users currently consuming more than 20 TB can retain their existing storage capacity and data without any data loss, quota reduction, or service disruption during the licensing transition.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Which Microsoft 365 or Office 365 licensing option would be recommended to replace the existing OneDrive for Business Plan 2 licenses?
  2. Would five Office 365 E3 licenses allow us to maintain the current OneDrive storage allocation for the two users already consuming more than 20 TB each?

Hello Nicolas

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

I understand that two of your five users currently consume more than 20 TB of OneDrive storage.

Microsoft recommends replacing the retiring standalone Plan 2 licenses with an appropriate Microsoft 365 suite, such as E3 or E5. However, five Office 365 E3 licenses alone should not be assumed to retain the existing 20+ TB allocations.

Additional capacity may be available through pay-as-you-go OneDrive storage or OneDrive Extra Storage capacity packs, up to a total limit of 25 TB per user.

As a Community Moderator, I cannot provide written confirmation of licensing or storage entitlements. Please contact your Microsoft representative, licensing partner, or Microsoft Support to confirm eligibility and configure the additional storage before removing the existing licenses.
