Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.
You say your account name is "still available." Do you mean the address is still available? Where is it available? What follows the @ in your address? Typically, when trying to log in with an Outlook.com address you see the error "The account doesn't exist," it means that a hacker added their own address, made it the primary address, then removed your original address from the account. When that happens, the address becomes permanently disabled and Microsoft will tell you it doesn't exist. However, if you were to try to recreate an account using that address, you'll get the error that the address is already in use. This is because the address has been permanently disabled and can never be reused, so in a way, it still exists, but it exists in a "never use" list. You cannot get an account back that has been modified in this fashion.
Since you are writing about a Microsoft account with a Microsoft 365 subscription, it means that the hacker now owns your subscription. If you have a payment card associated with the acocunt, immediately contact the card issuer and have then reissue the card. If you used the password you set for the account on any other service, immediately visit that service and change that password, choosing something long, complex and completely unique. You should never use a password for more than one account or service.
