Factory reset Windows 8

I was instructed to reset my machine to factory settings.

The original version is Windows 8. The current version is Windows 10 Home 21H2. I downloaded the Windows 10 Home 20H2 version two years ago and yellow warning triangles appeared in Device Manager.

It turned out that I haven't updated the Windows 8 updates and BIOS update from the device manufacturer's website, so some of the OEM updates that came through Windows Update since then haven't been updated, and some of the updates for Windows 10 aren't updated either. Now I don't get the updates to work when the version is Windows 10 20H2 / 21H1 / 21H2 when the updates should have been done before upgrading to these versions of Windows.

I read somewhere that you need to contact Microsoft support before performing a factory data reset on Windows 8.

What should I do to restore the factory settings? Does this factory reset remove any OEM updates I have already received through Windows Update over the years.

    Hi ElluK

A Windows Reset will roll your PC back to the last major feature update that was installed on your PC, after the reset, there may be a couple of small cumulative updates that would need to be re-installed.

Does this factory reset remove OEM updates that I've already received through Windows Update over the years. The first updates are available from the device manufacturer's website, but later they started coming through Windows Update, and now there are worries about losing them during factory resets. They are not available on the equipment manufacturer's website.

    Hi ElluK

Yes, if you revert your system to Windows 8, you can download the Windows 8.1 ISO file form the link below, then use that to upgrade to Windows 8.1

    Hi ElluK

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

There are two types of reset, a built-in Windows reset from the settings app, using that method should reset back to the last major Windows 10 version installed on your PC, or a Manufacturers Factory Reset, that should roll your system back to the original operating System (Windows 8)

Which version of Windows do you want to reset back to, 8 or 10?

It's likely that Windows 8 is the one to return to, as no updates have been made for both Windows 8 and 8.1. Will I also be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1 if I restore Windows 8.
