Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
For a business Microsoft 365 subscription, the upgrade path depends on whether the current plan already includes the Microsoft 365 desktop apps.
- Check the current subscription plan.
- If the plan already includes the Microsoft 365 apps, continue with the plan change flow in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- If the plan does not include the Microsoft 365 apps, the documented options are:
- switch to a subscription that includes the Microsoft 365 productivity apps,
- buy an individual Microsoft 365 subscription, or
- buy multiple copies of Office through volume licensing.
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, open the subscription to change.
- Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- If using Simplified view, select Subscriptions.
- If using Dashboard view, go to Billing > Your products.
- Select the subscription to manage.
- Change the plan.
- For MCA billing accounts: on the subscription details page, under Other subscription options, select Change to a different subscription option. Then choose when to schedule the change, enter the number of licenses, select subscription length and billing frequency, and select Change plan.
- For MOSA billing accounts: on the subscription details page, under Product details and upgrades, select View upgrades recommended for your org, choose the new product on Available upgrades, and select Upgrade. On Checkout, select or add a payment method, then select Place order.
- Start using the new subscription.
- After the order is placed, the change can take a few minutes to finalize.
- The new subscription can be used right away.
If the goal is specifically to move to a business subscription that includes the apps needed before adding Copilot-related capabilities, use the plan-upgrade path above first.
