Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If the app itself is locked, unlock Microsoft Authenticator with the device PIN, fingerprint, or Face ID first. A locked app can prevent the number entry box from appearing.
Then check these items in order:
- Enable notifications for Authenticator
Silent or disabled notifications can stop the approval prompt from appearing. - Make sure the phone has internet access
If needed, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data. - Update Microsoft Authenticator
An outdated app version can cause sign-in failures. - Check date and time settings on the device
Incorrect device time can interfere with authentication. - Try the sign-in again
If the sign-in page shows the number prompt again, open the unlocked Authenticator app or tap the New sign-in request notification, enter or tap the matching number, and approve.
If the app keeps locking itself, open Authenticator and turn App Lock off in Settings if access is possible.
If repeated sign-in attempts were made, Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can temporarily block more attempts. In that case, wait and try again later, or use a different MFA method if one is available.
If the account still cannot be accessed:
- Work or school account: contact the IT admin or helpdesk. They can investigate sign-in logs and help reset or re-register MFA if needed.
- Personal account: in Authenticator, use Send feedback to send logs, then contact Support.
