You normally cannot display your current Microsoft account password, but because you are already signed in to Windows 11, you can reset it after verifying your identity—or view it if it was previously saved in Microsoft Edge.
Reset the Microsoft account password
- Open Start → Settings.
- Select Accounts → Sign-in options.
- Expand Password, then select Change.
- Select Forgot my current password.
- Follow the prompts to verify your identity and create a new password. This also works when you normally enter a Windows Hello PIN rather than the account password.^1^
Alternatively, open the Microsoft account sign-in page, select Forgotten your password?, choose where to receive a security code, enter that code, and create a new password.^2^
Afterward, use the new password when Windows or a Microsoft service specifically requests the Microsoft account password. Your Windows Hello PIN is separate and may continue to work unchanged.
Check whether Edge saved the password
This only works if Edge previously saved that particular Microsoft account password:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select … → Settings.
- Select Passwords and autofill → Microsoft Password Manager.
- Find the relevant Microsoft sign-in entry and select its arrow.
- Select the eye icon. Enter your Windows device PIN or password if requested.^3^
If no matching entry exists, reset the password instead. Editing an entry in Edge changes only Edge’s stored copy—it does not change the actual Microsoft account password.
If verification is unavailable
If the listed recovery email address or phone number is inaccessible or unrecognized, use Microsoft’s sign-in helper from the password-reset process.^2^ If directed to complete the account recovery form, submit it from a device and location previously used with the account and provide old passwords and other requested account details.^4^
Microsoft Support cannot retrieve, disclose, or bypass a forgotten password.^1^
