I work for a company that gets a discount on MS365 Family Classic subscription. I received an email on 22Sep2026 advising the amount to be charged would be $125.30. On 28Sep2026 I received an email stating I was charged $139. I have tried getting in touch on the help pages but it keeps directing me to check my account and 'overcharging' sends me to this chat. Please review the charge & refund the difference. Thank you.

    Hi Roger E,

I understand why the difference between the quoted renewal price and the final charge would be concerning, especially when the email indicated $125.30 but the amount charged was $139.00.

Before contacting support again, please sign in with the personal Microsoft account used for the purchase and review the transaction in Microsoft account Order history. Open the relevant order and check whether the $139 total includes any tax, fee, or pricing adjustment that was not shown in the earlier renewal notice.

If the order details do not explain the $13.70 difference, this will need to be reviewed by Microsoft Billing Support. You can contact them through the official Microsoft Support page. When prompted, enter Microsoft 365 billing charge, select Get Help, and then choose the available option to contact a support agent.

Please have the following information ready:

    • The September 22 email showing the expected charge of $125.30
    • The September 28 receipt or bank statement showing the $139 charge
    • The order number shown in your Microsoft account
    • The name of the employer discount program, if available

For your privacy, do not post the full receipt, card number, order number, or account details publicly.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Contributors and moderators cannot access billing records or issue refunds, so only Microsoft Billing Support can confirm why the renewal amount changed and determine whether the difference is refundable. Microsoft also provides an official guide for investigating a billing charge. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Microsoft Billing Support must review the recognized $139 renewal against the $125.30 notice and determine whether the $13.70 difference is refundable; this forum cannot access the transaction or issue a refund.

    Contact billing support directly

    1. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account associated with the subscription, not the employer-issued work account. Workplace Discount Program Microsoft 365 purchases are added to the personal account’s Services & subscriptions page.^1^
    2. Open Microsoft Support.
    3. Enter Chat with an agent, then select Get Help.
    4. Select Contact Support and follow the prompts for Microsoft 365 billing.
    5. Choose Chat with a support agent or Call me back, if offered. This is the recommended escalation for a Microsoft 365 Family Classic overcharge.^2^
    6. Give the agent:
      • The 22 September 2026 renewal notice showing $125.30
      • The 28 September 2026 receipt or statement showing $139
      • The $13.70 disputed difference
      • Confirmation that this is a Microsoft Workplace Discount Program subscription

Attach screenshots with unrelated transactions, full card numbers, addresses, and account identifiers removed.

    Verify the renewal record

Before starting the chat, check Microsoft account Order history and Services & subscriptions. Record the order number and displayed subscription price. If the subscription is absent, repeat this with any other personal Microsoft accounts that may have been used for the purchase.^3^

For an existing Microsoft 365 subscription, the Workplace Discount Program rate begins at the existing subscription’s annual renewal date, provided the employer offer was purchased using the Microsoft account associated with that subscription.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Switch between Microsoft 365 subscriptions") Ask support to verify that the workplace discount was attached to the same account and applied to this renewal.

Do not cancel solely to dispute the difference

Self-service refund eligibility requires cancellation and is determined automatically during that process; not every cancellation produces a refund.[^5^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support") Because only the price difference is disputed and continued use may be desired, have Billing Support review the discrepancy before cancelling.

If support instructs you to use the refund process, sign in with the purchasing account, open Services & subscriptions → Microsoft 365 → Manage → Cancel, and review the refund offer before completing cancellation.[^6^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365") Cancelling a Family subscription can reduce benefits and storage allowances for everyone sharing it.

Use Manage your payments → Investigate only if the $139 transaction is missing from the expected account or you do not recognize it; Microsoft documents that tool for unrecognized charges.^7^
