I CANT LOG IN IN MY MICROSOFT ACCOUNT

Good evening, I need some help. This morning, when I tried to access my Microsoft account, I was told that the email address ([Moderator note: PII removed]@gmail.com) was not linked to any Microsoft account. I discovered that it has been changed to "[Moderator note: PII removed]@outlook.com," along with the associated password.

This all happened in relation to the Minecraft account I had linked to my email, [Moderator note: PII removed]@gmail.com.

What can I do?

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, Cocco Bello.

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide private, identifiable information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide such details the next time you post to protect personal data.

From what you described, this looks like your Microsoft account has been compromised: someone appears to have changed the account’s sign-in address and password. The fact that your original Gmail address now shows as not associated with a Microsoft account is consistent with the sign-in information having been changed.

For such cases, Microsoft explicitly guides users who cannot log in to use the Sign-in Helper. It can identify your account issues and, based on detected situations, offer options to contact support staff. You may be presented with verification forms where you can provide the evidence:

I wish I could help you further, but unfortunately, Microsoft Q&A is just a public user-to-user forum. We cannot verify ownership, restore the old email address, reset the changed password, or manually return the Minecraft account from here. Those changes require Microsoft's account-recovery system.

Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper immediately and report that the original Gmail sign-in alias was changed without permission; this is the official route when a Microsoft username is no longer recognized.^1^

    Recover the Microsoft account

    1. Secure the device first
      • On Windows, open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Scan options → Full scan → Scan now.
      • Complete the scan before changing passwords, so malware cannot capture the new credentials.^2^
    2. Open Microsoft’s compromised-account page
      • Run the Sign-in Helper shown on that page.
      • Enter the original Gmail address previously used to access the Microsoft/Minecraft account.
      • When prompted, choose the option indicating that somebody else may be using the account.
      • State clearly: “My Microsoft account sign-in alias was changed without permission, and this account owns my Minecraft license.”^2^
    3. Complete the account recovery form if offered
      • Supply a different, working email address where Microsoft can contact you.
      • Use a device and location previously used to access the account, if possible.
      • Gather and enter as much historical information as possible:
        • Previous Microsoft passwords
        • Minecraft/Microsoft order number and purchase date
        • Billing information
        • Xbox console hardware ID, if applicable
        • Xbox gamertag or Skype details
        • Microsoft security and Minecraft migration emails
      • Microsoft normally sends the result to the contact email within 24 hours. If verification fails, the form can be submitted up to twice per day with more accurate information.^3^
    4. If the form says the original Gmail account does not exist
      • Return to the Sign-in Helper rather than repeatedly attempting ordinary password reset.
      • If it offers support, report that the username stopped working after an unauthorized alias change. Microsoft specifically directs unrecognized-username cases to this route.^1^

Do not try to sign in with the unfamiliar Outlook address unless you control it, and do not create a replacement Microsoft account expecting the Minecraft ownership to appear there. The addresses attached to one Microsoft account are called aliases and share that account’s subscriptions and settings; changing an alias does not create a separate copy of its purchases.^4^

    Important recovery limitation

Microsoft support agents can guide you through the process, but they are not permitted to send a manual password-reset link or directly change an account’s details. Ownership must be established through Microsoft’s recovery process.^3^

If two-step verification was enabled and none of its registered verification methods remains accessible, Microsoft states that the recovery form cannot bypass that protection.^3^

    • Change the password of the Gmail account and enable two-step verification there.
    • Sign out unknown Gmail sessions and review forwarding rules and recovery information.
    • Change any other account that reused the compromised password.
    • Preserve Minecraft receipts, order confirmations, security alerts, and screenshots; do not publish order numbers or personal details in this forum.
    • If access is restored, immediately change the Microsoft password, review the account’s security activity, remove unfamiliar aliases or verification methods, and add Microsoft Authenticator and another recovery method.^5^
