Desktop display settings.

My desktop display shows icons that are far too small to read easily. How can I change the display settings for the desktop only - other display settings are fine (on the web, or MS Word, Excel etc).

Right-click an empty area of the Windows 11 desktop, select View, and choose Large icons to enlarge only the desktop icons without changing websites, Word, Excel, or other applications.^1^

    For finer control:

    1. Click an empty area of the desktop.
    2. Hold down Ctrl.
    3. Scroll the mouse wheel up until the icons reach a comfortable size.
Scroll down to make them smaller.

This adjusts all desktop icons together; Windows does not provide a built-in setting to resize only one desktop icon.^2^

If the icon names are still too small

Windows does not provide a desktop-label-only text-size control. Settings > Accessibility > Text size makes text larger across Windows, including icon labels, title bars, and menus—not just the desktop.^3^

Avoid changing Settings > System > Display > Scale for this purpose, because scaling enlarges other screen content and applications as well.
