In summer 2024, I purchased a laptop from Best Buy with 1 year subscription to MS 365. We never activated the account. I recently received a message stating the account will be auto-renewed and I need to stop/cancel that.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. I understand that you previously purchased a laptop with a Microsoft 365 subscription in Best Buy.

If the subscription that you have is from them (Best Buy), you may reach out to them to check and clarify this auto renewal message that you have received to ensure that this will not be charged under your account.

You can also check the Microsoft support link above with regards to a Microsoft 365 subscription through a third party.

Because the Microsoft 365 subscription was purchased through Best Buy, billing and cancellation must be handled through Best Buy, not through Microsoft.

    Steps:

    1. Check whether the subscription appears at https://account.microsoft.com/services after signing in with the Microsoft account that would have been used for the purchase.
    2. If the subscription shows full options like Manage, Cancel, or Change payment, it is billed by Microsoft and can be canceled there.
    3. If those options are missing or limited, or if the subscription was purchased through Best Buy, contact Best Buy directly to stop auto-renew and manage billing.
    4. If the page shows Turn on recurring billing, auto-renew is already off and the subscription is set to expire on the date shown.

Microsoft cannot cancel, refund, or change recurring billing for subscriptions purchased through a third-party retailer such as Best Buy.
