Recover Sent Emails folder and emails

Hello,

I am using a personal Outlook.com account primarily through Outlook.com in a web browser.

I have discovered that emails that were previously stored in my Sent Items folder are now missing. I did not intentionally delete these messages, and I would like to know whether Microsoft can investigate what happened and whether the missing Sent Items can be restored from the server.

I have already checked:

Sent Items

Deleted Items

Recover Deleted Items

Search across all folders

Could you please check whether there are recoverable copies, backups, or server-side records of the missing sent emails and advise whether they can be restored?

These emails are important to me, so I would appreciate any recovery options that may still be available.

Thank you.

For a personal Outlook.com account, the remaining self-service recovery paths are the ones already checked: Sent Items, Deleted Items, Recover items deleted from this folder, and mailbox search.

Supported recovery options from Outlook.com are:

    1. Check whether the messages were deleted and are still within the recovery window.
      • Items in Deleted Items are automatically deleted after 30 days.
      • Items removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days.
      • In Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, open Deleted Items and use Recover items deleted from this folder > Recover > Restore.
    2. Check whether the messages were moved to Junk Email.
      • Junk email is retained for 30 days before automatic deletion.
      • If a message is there, use Report > Not junk or move it to another folder.
    3. Check whether sent mail is being saved going forward.
      • In Outlook settings, make sure Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder is enabled.

If the missing sent messages are not in Sent Items, Deleted Items, Recover items deleted from this folder, or search results, the provided guidance does not include any supported way to restore older server copies or backups for Outlook.com from the user side.

For investigation of what happened, the provided audit-log method applies to Microsoft 365/Purview scenarios and uses administrative PowerShell, not a personal Outlook.com mailbox recovery workflow.

If needed, Outlook.com support can be contacted through Help in Outlook.com and then Still need help?

    Hi, LavKon

I understand why you want these messages recovered, especially since you’ve already checked the usual recovery locations. This forum cannot inspect your mailbox or confirm whether Microsoft has recoverable server copies.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Check existing computer backups, if you previously used desktop Outlook. An older Outlook data file (.pst) may contain copies or archived messages. In classic Outlook for Windows, select File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File, then open the existing backup and inspect its folders. This option only helps if a backup or local archive already exists.

Ask recipients for copies of the important messages. I suggest asking them to forward the original emails as attachments, including any original attachments. This can help rebuild your records, although it does not restore the original Sent Items.

Review your Microsoft account’s Recent activity for unfamiliar access. If you find unauthorized activity, secure the account. This is a security check, not an email recovery method.
