No longer able to move image files between folders using my One Drive online

I have been updating my One Drive photographs, and moving them to different folders, using the Move Here button. If I select just one item, the system allows me to move a single file, but when I select more than one item, the Move Here icon stays greyed out.

I am using Windows 11 21H2 (OS Build 22000.2538) and I have browsers such as MS Edge, Google Chrome

It was all working fine until last week - it literally stopped from oe day to the next.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Hi Gill Townsend,

Since the behavior changed recently and only affects moving multiple images while single-file moves still work, it may be worth checking whether the issue is related to the current browser session or the way the files are being displayed in OneDrive.

As I have checked and validated, the approach from AI answer is pointing us at the right direction, so you can follow the steps.

Additionally, you could try the following quick checks:

    • Open OneDrive in an InPrivate/Incognito window and test moving multiple files again.
    • Sign out of OneDrive on the web, then sign back in and retest.
    • If the issue persists, try moving the files using the OneDrive desktop app/File Explorer as a temporary workaround.

If the problem continues across different browsers and private browsing sessions, please let me know whether it occurs with all image folders or only with a specific folder. That information can help narrow down the cause.

For OneDrive on the web, moving multiple files should work by selecting the items, choosing Move to, browsing to the destination folder, and then selecting Move. If Move Here stays greyed out only when multiple items are selected, use these checks and workarounds:

    1. Try the move from Files view, not Photos view. In OneDrive, photos shown in Photo view are an aggregated view and can’t be moved from there. Find the actual files in Files view, then move them.
    2. Use the standard web flow:
      • Select the files.
      • Select Move to.
      • In the Move to pane, browse to the destination folder.
      • Select Move.
    3. If moving between different OneDrive accounts, that is not supported directly on the web for multiple files. Sync the files to the PC, then use File Explorer to move them.
    4. As a workaround, use File Explorer with the OneDrive desktop app:
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Drag the files from their current folder to the target OneDrive folder in the left pane. This is also the recommended path when web behavior is not working as expected.
    5. If the issue started suddenly and affects the web UI, test in an InPrivate/Incognito window and try another browser profile. Similar cases point to browser-side web interface issues such as cache, cookies, or extensions interfering.
    6. If uploads and moves on the website continue to behave unexpectedly, the OneDrive app can also be used as a temporary workaround for file management.

If the problem happens only with a specific set of files, check whether those files are being selected from an aggregated view rather than their real folder location.
