One Drive suddenly not allowing me to manually upload files or folders.

I severed the One Drive connection to my PC long ago so I could manually control what folders and files get uploaded and saved to One Drive. That is, One Drive is not synced with my PC, so I can store things on One Drive without having them on my PC. This has worked fine for a couple of years, until three weeks ago. I have been unable to upload anything manually at all since then, the buttons for doing so just do not work. No idea why, have tried signing in/out, etc..., nothing else has changed on my PC or elsewhere that I know of, and have also reported the issue multiple times, and have received no response. Everything else about One Drive works fine. Any ideas?

Hi There,

When OneDrive isn’t synced with your PC, all uploads rely on the browser-based interface. If the upload buttons are unresponsive, it’s usually caused by:

Browser cache or cookies corruption

Extensions interfering  like ad blockers or script blockers

Outdated browser version or compatibility issues

Temporary UI bugs on OneDrive’s web platform

Since everything else in OneDrive works fine, it’s likely a front-end issue, not a problem with your account or storage.

Here are a few steps that may help restore upload functionality:

Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

Go to your browser settings

Clear cached images/files and cookies

Restart the browser and try again

Use Incognito Mode or a Different Browser

This helps rule out extension conflicts

If it works in Incognito, an extension is likely interfering

Try Microsoft Edge

OneDrive is optimized for Edge, and it may bypass the issue entirely

Check for JavaScript Errors

If you’re comfortable, open Developer Tools (F12) and check the Console tab for errors when clicking the upload button

Mobile Upload Workaround

Try uploading via the OneDrive mobile app or mobile browser as a temporary solution

Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
