Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Welcome John Madill,
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating it is to be blocked from uploading when you've paid for extra storage and know you aren't using it all.
First, please tell me:
- Which subscription do you have (Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal or Family), and how much extra storage did you buy?
- On the OneDrive "Manage storage" page, what "Total" and "Used" amounts do you see?
- Does the error appear on the OneDrive website, in the OneDrive app on Windows, or both?
While you check, please try these steps:
Step 1: Check that your subscription and storage add-on renewed
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the account you use for OneDrive.
- Check that both your Microsoft 365 subscription and the extra OneDrive storage show as Active
- Select Payment & billing > Order history and confirm the latest renewal charge went through. If it shows a declined payment or an expired card, update your payment method on the same page.
Step 2: Check your total storage use, not just OneDrive files
- Go to https://onedrive.live.com/?v=managestorage and look at the full breakdown of what's using space.
- Your recycle bin also contributes to your cloud storage usage. If you need to, select Recycle bin > Empty recycle bin. Warning: emptying the OneDrive recycle bin deletes those files permanently, so check them first.
- After you delete unwanted files, it might take up to 24 hours for your quota to update.
Step 3: Refresh the quota in the OneDrive app
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar, then Settings > Account > Unlink this PC
- Sign in again with the same Microsoft account.
- Unlinking doesn't delete files stored online, but let any syncing finish before you unlink.
Looking forward to your update.
