Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Investigate the charge through Microsoft’s Manage your payments page before attempting cancellation, because the statement description alone does not establish which account or subscription produced it.
1. Identify the charge
- Open Manage your payments.
- Sign in to each personal Microsoft account you may have used.
- Select Investigate beside the unfamiliar transaction.
- Check whether a family member used the card through another Microsoft account.
Microsoft lists recurring subscriptions, family purchases, retried declined payments, split orders, and in-app purchases as possible sources of an unfamiliar charge.^1^
2. If you find a Microsoft subscription
To stop future billing and check refund eligibility:
- Go to Services & subscriptions.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
- Find it and select Manage.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel.
- Complete the prompts. Microsoft displays any available refund during cancellation; not every cancellation qualifies.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
If Turn on recurring billing appears instead of Cancel, the subscription is already scheduled to expire and should not renew.
3. If no matching charge appears
Contact Microsoft Support, enter unrecognized billing charge, select Get Help, and then Contact Support. Have the following ready:
- Charge date and amount
- Statement description
- Payment method type
- Only the card’s last four digits
Do not post a full card number, account credentials, or other personal information here. This is a public forum and cannot issue refunds or access billing records. Remove the email address from the original post if editing is available.
If Microsoft cannot locate the transaction, or if the charge is fraudulent, contact the bank or card issuer immediately. Ask it to dispute the transaction and prevent additional charges; Microsoft specifically recommends reporting a potentially compromised payment method rather than only disputing one charge.^1^
