Onedrive used to sync without me having to pay much attention. Now I get the message every few minutes that it is paused and I need to "click" the message to resume the sync/backup. Why the change? Which setting do I need to reset? Is this a sign of another update coming? I can't keep clicking the message every couple of min.....it is tedious.

Disable Energy Saver/Battery Saver and, if your internet plan is not data-limited, turn off Metered connection—these are the two Windows conditions that automatically pause OneDrive syncing.^1^

    Change the automatic-pause settings

    1. Open Start → Settings → System → Power & battery → Energy saver.
    2. Turn Energy saver off and disable any option that keeps it enabled continuously. Energy Saver limits background processes, which can interrupt syncing.^2^
    3. Open Settings → Network & internet.
    4. Select your active connection:
      • Wi-Fi → your connected network, or
      • Ethernet → your connected network.
    5. Turn Metered connection off, provided your internet service does not have a data cap. Metered connections restrict background syncing.^3^
    6. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar notification area and choose Resume syncing.

Leave Metered connection enabled if your provider charges by data usage; turning it off can increase data consumption.

    If OneDrive pauses again

Reset the OneDrive desktop sync app. This resets its settings and sync connections but does not delete files; OneDrive performs a full synchronization afterward.^4^

    1. Press Windows+R.
    2. Enter:
    wsreset.exe

    1. After that finishes, press Windows+R again and run:
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    1. If Windows cannot find that file, run:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    1. If that also fails, try:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    1. Open Start, type OneDrive, and launch the OneDrive desktop app. Re-select any folders previously excluded from syncing.

    Is an update responsible?

Microsoft’s current published list of recent OneDrive issues does not identify repeated Windows sync pausing every few minutes as a broadly acknowledged issue.^5^ Therefore, this message alone is not evidence that another update is coming. If both automatic-pause settings are off and a reset does not resolve it, use OneDrive → Help & Settings → Help & feedback to report the repeated pause, including the exact message and OneDrive version.

    Hello,

I’ve been seeing reports from other users over the past few weeks about OneDrive randomly pausing, sometimes when launching games or even web browsers. I believe this is an emerging issue on Microsoft's side.

Before an official fix is available,

You can temporarily turn off Windows Game Mode under Settings > Gaming > Game Mode to see if that makes any difference.

If not, another workaround you can try:

Please type cmd in the search on the taskbar. Don't press enter key yet. Instead, choose "run as administrator" to launch Command Prompt.

    Run this command:

    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\OneDrive" /v GPOSetUpdateRing /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Restart the computer. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, and uninstall OneDrive.

Then download and install this version: 26.189.0928.0009 (amd64). Be careful here; it is not the arm64, but amd64.

    ==========

And I strongly suggest that you also file a report to make product team aware of this issue. Right click on the OneDrive icon on taskbar > Settings > Send a feedback.
