The left-hand mouse button activates the pointer. The right-hand button has a very light touch, so I find my finger just passing over, barely touching it, and the drop-down boxes keep coming up no matter which site's on

    That's most likely a hardware issue. I suggest try the mouse on another computer if available or try a different mouse.
