Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Because OneDrive on the web still reports 5 GB while the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription page reports an active subscription, contact Microsoft Support to correct the account’s OneDrive storage entitlement; resetting the Windows client cannot correct a wrong server-side quota.
1. Request an entitlement correction
The conflicting web pages are the key evidence:
- Microsoft account: Microsoft 365 Personal — active
- OneDrive Manage storage: Free — 5 GB
- OneDrive upgrade flow: already subscribed to Personal
Microsoft documents that Personal includes storage above the free 5 GB allocation and that exceeding the quota prevents uploading, editing, and syncing new files.^1^ Since the subscription was not newly purchased and the discrepancy has persisted, this is not the documented “wait up to 24 hours for a new quota” case.^2^
- Open Microsoft’s My OneDrive says it’s full support page.
- Under Need more help? → Personal accounts, select Contact Microsoft Support.
- Sign in with the subscription-owning Microsoft account.
- Choose Microsoft 365 and Office → Subscription/account/billing or OneDrive → Storage, depending on the options displayed.
- Request that support refresh or correct the OneDrive storage entitlement for the active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
- Provide:
- A screenshot of Services & subscriptions showing Personal as active.
- A screenshot of OneDrive Manage storage showing 5 GB/Free.
- The renewal date and order number from the receipt.
- The exact OneDrive sync status or error text.
Do not post the receipt, order number, or account details in this public Q&A thread.
Deleting files below 5 GB may remove an over-quota restriction, but it does not repair the incorrect entitlement. Microsoft confirms that an over-quota account cannot upload, edit, or sync new files.^2^
2. Distinguish the quota problem from the Windows sync problem
After Support changes the web quota, refresh OneDrive Manage storage first. Do not troubleshoot the client until the web page shows the subscription storage—the web quota is authoritative for this distinction.
- If the web quota changes and syncing resumes: no client repair is needed.
- If the web quota changes but OneDrive still pauses whenever a file opens: reset the Windows OneDrive client.
- If the web quota remains 5 GB: return to the support case; local reinstall/reset steps cannot change the account’s cloud entitlement.
No matching 5-GB entitlement incident is listed on Microsoft’s published recent OneDrive issues page, so the available information does not establish that this is a recognized service-wide outage.^3^
3. Reset OneDrive only if sync remains broken afterward
A reset rebuilds OneDrive’s local settings and triggers a full synchronization. It does not delete cloud data, although previously selected folder-sync choices may need to be selected again.^4^
- Press Windows+R.
- Run:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
- If Windows cannot find it, run:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
- If that path also fails, run:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
- Open Start, search for OneDrive, and launch it.
- Allow the full synchronization to complete, then verify that opening an Office file no longer pauses sync.
If syncing specifically remains on Processing changes, close any currently open OneDrive files and inspect the OneDrive activity list for a blocked file. Microsoft notes that open files, large files, hidden temporary files, and sign-in state can hold processing in that state.^5^
