Stop repeating the password reset and run Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper, which checks the personal account and directs you to the appropriate recovery action without sending you through the same reset flow.^1^
1. Use Sign-in Helper
- Open the Sign-in Helper from Microsoft’s account sign-in support page linked above.
- Enter the Outlook.com, Hotmail, Xbox, or OneDrive email address—or the mobile number—used for the account.
- Follow the result displayed:
- If an account restriction or verification problem is detected, complete the prescribed action.
- If the password is accepted but sign-in still fails, select the path indicating that the password has stopped working.
- Carefully check the complete email domain, such as
.comversus.co.uk; if the account has another alias or associated phone number, try that identifier.^2^
Because the loop happens on both the laptop and phone, do not reset Windows or reinstall apps at this stage. The affected operation is the online personal-account recovery process, not only Windows 11 sign-in.
2. If there have been many recent reset attempts
Temporarily stop all sign-in and password-reset attempts for 24 hours. Repeated attempts can maintain a temporary restriction; during that interval, do not request another code or reset the password again. Afterward, make one attempt through Sign-in Helper from a familiar device and location.^3^
This cooldown is particularly relevant if you see “account locked,” “too many attempts,” or a similar message. Without such a message, proceed directly with Sign-in Helper.
3. Use the recovery form only when applicable
If Sign-in Helper directs you to account recovery, the recovery form is available only as a viable route when two-step verification is not enabled or when its required methods remain accessible.^4^
For the best chance of verification:
- Use a device and location previously used with the account.
- Provide a separate working email address where Microsoft can send the result.
- Gather old passwords and account-specific evidence:
- Exact Outlook/Hotmail email subject lines and contacts.
- Xbox console hardware ID from a frequently used console.
- Relevant Skype or purchase details, if applicable.
- Complete as many fields as possible. Microsoft normally sends the recovery result to the contact email within 24 hours.
If two-step verification is enabled and none of its alternate verification methods is accessible, the recovery form and support cannot bypass that protection or change the account’s security details.^4^
4. Escalation
If Sign-in Helper detects no problem but the reset page still loops after the cooldown:
- Open Contact Microsoft Support from the Windows/Microsoft account password-support page.
- Enter: Personal Microsoft account password reset returns to the reset page on multiple devices.
- Select Get Help, then Contact Support if that option is offered.^5^
Support can investigate the sign-in process, but agents cannot send a private password-reset link, retrieve a password, bypass verification, or directly change protected account details.
