My Amex account was charged today in the amount of $106.24. The charge was billed against my wife's card and she has been dead for almost a year. Obviously, she is not using any service, nor is anyone else in our household. Please reverse the charge and terminate whatever service you believe she is using.

    Hi Rich,

    1

I am sorry for your loss, do you have access to your wife's Microsoft Account?

    https://account.microsoft.com/services/

If so, log into the account on this link, then beside the subscription, click the Manage button and from there, you can cancel the subscription and also ensure you disable the recurring billing on the subscription to avoid any future payments.

If you do not have access to your wife's Microsoft account, then it is basically a legal process that must be entered into to access the account, this forum is just a user to user forum, no-one here has any account access, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly, try using this method to contact their support.

    Go to this link: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

    Select Microsoft 365

    Click 'Get Home Support'.

In the box provided, type billing.

Press Enter, then on the next page, scroll down and click 'Sign in to Contact Support'.

Navigate to Microsoft 365 and Office - Manage my Subscription.

Select the 'Chat with support agent in web browser' option

This public forum cannot access billing records or reverse the charge; use Microsoft’s Manage your payments investigation first, then cancel the identified subscription and request the refund during cancellation.

    Identify and cancel the subscription

    1. Sign in to Manage your payments using the Microsoft account associated with the card or purchase: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2246882
    2. Select Investigate beside the $106.24 charge. This is Microsoft’s designated process for an unrecognized card charge.^1^
    3. If it identifies a Microsoft 365 subscription, sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased it and open Services & subscriptions.
    4. Find the subscription and select Manage → Cancel (the option may appear as Upgrade or Cancel).
    5. Complete every cancellation screen. Microsoft will determine refund eligibility during this process; not every cancellation results in a refund.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
    6. If the page shows Turn on recurring billing, renewal is already disabled and the subscription will expire on the displayed date.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365")

Because this appears to be the latest recurring payment, act promptly. Microsoft’s policy states that the most recent recurring charge may qualify for a refund when cancellation occurs within 30 days of payment, subject to its stated limits and regional rules.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")

If the deceased account cannot be accessed

Microsoft’s deceased-account guidance says to stop subscriptions by asking the bank or card issuer to revoke Microsoft’s authorization, block recurring charges, or close/replace the affected card or account.^4^

Also contact Microsoft Support to investigate the charge and request a refund:

    1. Open Contact Microsoft Support.
    2. Enter unrecognized Microsoft 365 charge for deceased account.
    3. Select Get Help, then Contact Support.
    4. Have the charge date, amount, card issuer, and statement descriptor available. Do not post the full card number or other private information here.

If Microsoft cannot identify the transaction, or if the payment details may have been compromised, contact American Express immediately. Ask it both to dispute the $106.24 charge and block future recurring charges; disputing only the current charge does not prevent another payment attempt.^1^
