Identify the charge in your Microsoft account first, then cancel the matching subscription; Microsoft will show any refund eligibility during cancellation.
1. Identify what you are paying for and for how long
- Open Microsoft order history and sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Microsoft 365.
- Select Payment & billing → Order history.
- Under Refine, expand the date range to cover the charge shown on your bank or card statement.
- Open Order details for each completed charge to see the product, date, amount, and invoice. ^1^
- Open Services & subscriptions. The subscription entry shows:
If nothing appears, repeat these checks using any other personal Microsoft accounts previously used for Office. Also consider whether a family member used the payment card. For an unrecognized charge, open Microsoft’s Manage your payments page from the billing-charge guide and select Investigate. ^3^
2. Cancel and request the refund
For Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium purchased directly from Microsoft:
- Go to Microsoft 365 Services & subscriptions and sign in with the account that purchased it.
- Find the subscription and select Manage.
- Select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel.
- Complete the cancellation prompts. The process will automatically indicate whether the subscription qualifies for a refund. [^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft 365")
If the page displays Turn on recurring billing, automatic renewal is already disabled and the subscription will end on the displayed date.
Not using the subscription does not by itself guarantee a refund. In most cases, eligibility includes cancellation within 30 days of the initial purchase or before the first recurring billing date, whichever comes sooner. The most recent recurring charge may also qualify when cancellation occurs within 30 days after payment, limited to one time per Microsoft account per subscription product. Regional rules can provide additional rights. [^5^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
If Apple billed the purchase
Because this is on macOS, check the statement or receipt to determine who processed the payment. If the subscription was purchased through Apple’s App Store rather than Microsoft, cancellation and refunds must be handled by Apple. Submit the request through Apple Support. If the charge still cannot be located
Go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe the unknown Microsoft 365 charge, select Get Help, and then Contact Support. Do not post card numbers, account credentials, receipts, or other billing details in this public forum. ^3^
If the payment is unauthorized or the card may be compromised, contact the card issuer to block further charges and replace the card if necessary—not merely to dispute the existing transaction.
