I can't recover my account that I've barely used

I few years back, I made an account just to download a game, and I haven't use the account for anything else aside from that. I also do not have access to the device I made that account anymore, and I haven't logged into that account in any of my current devices. I cannot log in now, because I don't remember the password.

Right now I'm trying to recover the account so I could log back into that game, but I am unable to do so in that recovery account because I cannot provide any details aside from name, birthday and where the account was made, since I've never done anything with the account aside from making an account on that game.

I've tried the form multiple times, but it would not work due to the insufficient amount of info given, and I could not find any other way I could recover this account aside from the form given.

Are there any other methods I could try?

    Hi Rody Kwong,

Since the account was barely used, the recovery system may not have enough account history to compare with the information you provide.

Before submitting the form again, try to locate anything connected to the game, such as a purchase receipt, confirmation email, gamertag, transaction ID, saved browser login, or an account with the game publisher. This may help you confirm the exact Microsoft account address and provide more accurate information. If the game has its own support service, you can also ask whether it can identify the account or gamertag linked to your game profile.

Please keep in mind that this is a user-to-user community, and no one cannot bypass account ownership verification or manually change the account details. If the recovery process cannot verify ownership, access may unfortunately not be recoverable. Microsoft’s official guidance is available here: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form. Thank you so much for your understanding.

For a personal Microsoft account, there is no alternate recovery path that bypasses the standard recovery process.

    What is supported:

    1. Try the Sign-in Helper first. It is the recommended first step for most sign-in problems and for cases where the listed verification options are not recognized.
    2. If the account still exists and the password is forgotten, use the Microsoft account recovery form.
    3. Improve the recovery form chances by:
      • completing it from a device and location previously used with that account, if possible
      • listing old passwords that may have been used
      • checking saved passwords in browsers or Windows Credential Manager
      • answering as many fields as possible, even if only approximate
    4. After submitting the recovery form, the result is sent to the working contact email provided in the form within 24 hours. If verification fails, the form can be tried again, up to two times per day.

    Important limits in this scenario:

    • If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, the account cannot be recovered through support. Support agents are not allowed to send reset links or change account details.
    • Support agents also cannot manually bypass account ownership verification for personal Microsoft accounts.
    • If the account has not been signed in to for two years, it may be considered inactive and closed. If it was closed, it cannot be reopened.

Given the account was barely used and there is very little account history to provide, the only remaining supported options are:

    • retry the Sign-in Helper
    • retry the account recovery form with any old passwords or saved credentials that can be found
    • if the username is no longer recognized, use another alias or phone number previously attached to the account, if one exists
    • if still unsuccessful, contact support and report that the username has stopped working
