Hello, I understand your concern.

Please see below for other things that you can also check when adding a payment method.

  • Enter your name precisely as it appears on the card and only include your middle initial if it appears on your card.
  • If this is a company card, enter the company name as both a first name and last name. For example, if the company name is "My Company" you may split the company name into the first and last name fields.
  • If the company only has one name, for example, "Company," enter the company name in both the first and last name fields.
  • If you are asked to enter the address and it exceeds the Address 1 field, use the Address 2 field and do not shorten or abbreviate your address.
  • The card number and type cannot be edited, so if you make a mistake, you'll need to add a new one with the correct information. Other credit card information can be edited, such as billing address and expiration date.
  • Other factors such as, card issuer fraud block, 3-D Secure/online payment restriction, family-card name mismatch, temporary authorization hold, or regional/payment-method limitations can also affect this.

Add the new credit card to your Microsoft account, then select it as the payment method for your Microsoft 365 subscription.

Change the card

  1. Open Payment options:
    https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
  2. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account used to purchase Microsoft 365.
  3. Select Add a new payment method.
  4. Enter the new card number, expiration date, security code, cardholder information, and billing address, then save it. A new card number is added as a new payment method rather than entered as an update to the old card.^1^
  5. Open Services & subscriptions:
    https://account.microsoft.com/services
  6. Locate Microsoft 365 and select Manage → Change how you pay.
  7. Select the new card. If it is not listed, choose Add a new way to pay and enter it there.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options | Microsoft Support")

Do not remove the old card until the new one has been assigned successfully.

If the expected option is missing

  • Past-due subscription: Select Pay now, add or choose the new card, select Next, and complete the payment.[^3^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Pay for a past-due Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
  • Recurring billing is off: Change how you pay is unavailable because the subscription is already paid through its expiration date.
  • Prepaid subscription: Its payment method cannot be changed. Add the new payment information and use it when purchasing another subscription after the prepaid term expires.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options | Microsoft Support")
  • Purchased through Apple, Google, or another retailer: Update the card through that provider, not through the Microsoft account billing page.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Where can I manage my Microsoft 365 subscription? | Microsoft Support")
  • Card is rejected: Verify that the billing address matches the card issuer’s records and ask the bank whether it is blocking the transaction.^1^
