Recover or identify the Microsoft account attached to the second trial, then cancel it from that account’s Services & subscriptions page before the 30-day trial period ends.
1. Identify the account that owns the second trial
The Gmail address that received the confirmation might not be the username needed to manage the subscription, so do not create a new account with that address.
- Review the trial confirmation email for any Microsoft account name, masked username, or other account details.
- Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper and enter the Gmail address or any phone number or alternative email that may be associated with your wife’s account. The tool checks the supplied details and directs you to the appropriate recovery process.^1^
- If she previously added a recovery phone number or email address, use Microsoft’s username-lookup process:
- Request a security code using that phone number or recovery email.
- Enter the code.
- Microsoft will display a masked hint for the associated username, such as
j********@outlook.com.^2^
- If the Gmail address produces a password prompt, it is a Microsoft account; use Forgot password? if necessary. If Microsoft says the account does not exist, check the exact spelling and try any account alias or phone number associated with it.^3^
2. Cancel the trial after recovering access
- Open Microsoft Services & subscriptions and sign in with the account identified above.
- Locate the duplicate Microsoft 365 trial.
- Select Cancel and complete the displayed cancellation prompts.
- Check the resulting status:
- Expires on with Paid with: None means the trial will expire without a future payment.
- Turn on recurring billing means recurring billing is already disabled; no further cancellation step is required.
- A visible Cancel link means the trial still needs to be cancelled.
Microsoft states that a Microsoft 365 trial can be cancelled within 30 days of signup without being charged.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Cancel your free trial of Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Support")
If the account still cannot be accessed
Use the Contact Microsoft Support option from the trial-cancellation article. Enter the billing/subscription problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support when offered.[^4^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Cancel your free trial of Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Support")
Provide the support agent with:
- The trial-confirmation email
- The approximate signup date
- The Microsoft 365 product or trial name
- The cardholder’s name and the card’s last four digits
- Any order, subscription, or transaction number shown in the email
Do not post those details publicly. Support must verify ownership before it can assist with an inaccessible subscription. Microsoft’s cancellation troubleshooting page also directs customers who cannot cancel through self-service to guided support.[^5^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
If the trial was purchased in Germany
Microsoft provides a cancellation process that does not require signing into the account. Use Cancel a Microsoft subscription acquired in Germany and supply the requested purchase information.[^5^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
