I connect my work gmail through Outlook and started having a sync issue for the last few days. The issue isn't just Outlook on my computer.. my Iphone phone app also doesn't sync. It will randomly sync 2-3 times throughout the day..

I've tried

  • Signing in and out of my account
  • Resetting new outlook / repairing / reinstalling

Additionally when I try to log into outlook online I get the following error:

The desktop and iPhone failures should be escalated as one Gmail-to-Microsoft-cloud synchronization incident, while your Outlook-on-the-web error requires a separate Exchange Online license and mailbox-provisioning check by your Microsoft 365 administrator.

    1. Establish whether Gmail itself is current

Open the affected mailbox directly in Gmail using a browser.

    • If messages appear immediately in Gmail but remain delayed in both New Outlook and Outlook for iPhone: the failing path is Outlook’s shared Microsoft-cloud connection to Google, not the local Windows installation. A matching cross-client Gmail synchronization issue has also been reported for New Outlook and Outlook mobile.^1^
    • If Gmail itself is delayed: contact your Google Workspace administrator because the source mailbox is affected.

Use Gmail in the browser as the temporary workaround. Since signing out, resetting, repairing, and reinstalling New Outlook did not help—and the iPhone is affected too—repeating local Windows repairs is unlikely to isolate this cross-client problem.

    2. Have the administrator check the web error separately

    The screenshot contains:

    OwaUserHasNoMailboxAndNoLicenseAssignedException

That is an Exchange/Outlook-on-the-web mailbox exception, not a Gmail IMAP error. If your work identity is supposed to include an Exchange Online mailbox, ask the Microsoft 365 administrator to:

    1. Open Microsoft 365 admin center → Users → Active users → your account.
    2. Verify that a valid license containing Exchange Online is assigned and that its Exchange service is enabled.
    3. Run the mailbox-provisioning diagnostic in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    4. Check Health → Service health for an applicable Exchange Online or Outlook incident.
    5. If the license was newly assigned or changed, allow provisioning to complete. Microsoft states this normally takes less than 30 minutes but can take up to 24 hours.
    6. If the mailbox is still unavailable after 24 hours, open a Microsoft support case.^2^

Provide the administrator with the exception name, UTC timestamp, client ID, session ID, and request ID shown in the screenshot.

If this identity is only a Google Workspace account and was never intended to have an Exchange Online mailbox, assigning an Exchange license solely to repair Gmail synchronization is not established as the fix. The web exception then describes the Microsoft identity’s lack of an Exchange mailbox, while the Gmail synchronization failure still needs investigation through Outlook support.

    3. Verify the Google-side prerequisites once

If your Google Workspace administrator has not already checked these settings:

    1. In Gmail, open Settings → See all settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    2. Confirm IMAP is enabled.
    3. Open Settings → Labels.
    4. Confirm Show in IMAP is enabled for Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, All Mail, and any other affected labels.
    5. Allow up to 15 minutes and test again.

Microsoft documents these as the required settings for connecting Gmail to the Microsoft cloud.^3^

Do not use Classic Outlook’s configurable send/receive interval as a workaround: New Outlook synchronizes automatically in the background and does not provide that interval setting.^4^

    4. Escalate with diagnostics

Because the same Gmail account fails in two Outlook clients, submit diagnostics from both:

    • New Outlook for Windows: Help → Get Diagnostics → Upload Logs/Send Diagnostics. Also submit Help → Feedback, enable contact permission, and attach the screenshot.^5^
    • Outlook for iPhone: open the account menu, tap ?, then select Contact Outlook Mobile Support.^6^

    Include:

    • The approximate time synchronization stopped.
    • Whether Gmail Web remains current.
    • That Windows and iPhone show the same intermittent behavior.
    • Whether sending, receiving, deleting, and moving messages are all affected.
    • The OWA exception details, while noting that it may be a separate mailbox-provisioning problem.
