I need a second email for general inquiries.

I would like to have another email address named:

[Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]@LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com

I want that to ALWAYS simply be linked to my domain/main email

Add [Email] as an email alias on your existing Microsoft 365 user; messages sent to either address will arrive in the same mailbox, without requiring another license.^1^

    Add the address

An administrator with an Exchange-based administrative role must perform these steps:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Go to Users → Active users.
    3. Select the user whose current mailbox should receive the inquiries.
    4. Under Aliases, select Manage username and email.
    5. In Username, enter info.
    6. Select LeadershipInitiativesGroup.com from the domain list.
    7. Select Add, and then Save changes.

The update can take up to 24 hours. Afterward:

    • Mail sent to [Email] goes into the existing mailbox.
    • Mail sent to the primary address continues going into that same mailbox.
    • Both addresses remain attached to one account and one inbox.
    • No separate password or additional Microsoft 365 license is needed.^1^

If the domain does not appear in the drop-down list, it must first be added and verified in Microsoft 365. Adding or modifying a domain requires Global Administrator or Domain Name Administrator permissions.^2^

    Reply behavior

The address shown when replying can depend on the Outlook client:

    • Outlook on the web uses the alias that received the message.
    • Outlook desktop uses the mailbox’s primary email address by default.^1^

If outgoing replies must consistently appear as coming from [Email], an Exchange administrator can enable Send from alias for the organization. Users can then select the alias in Outlook on the web’s From field.^1^

When to use a shared mailbox instead

Use a shared mailbox rather than an alias if multiple people will monitor general inquiries or replies must appear from the info@ address as a distinct business mailbox. The administrator creates it, assigns members, and users access it through their own accounts; the shared mailbox itself is not intended for direct sign-in.^3^

For one person and one inbox, the alias is the direct fit.

    Good day Art,

I understand that you would like to create an additional address for general inquiries and have messages sent to that address delivered to your existing business mailbox. You can choose one of the following options:

Option 1: Add the address as an email alias

This is the simplest option if you want both addresses to use the same inbox. Messages sent to the additional address will be delivered directly to your existing mailbox. An alias doesn't require an additional Microsoft 365 license or a separate mailbox.

    • You can follow the detailed steps provided in the AI answer below.

Please note that the change can take up to 24 hours to take effect. After that, messages sent to either address will arrive in the same inbox. Your primary business address will also remain the default sender address for new emails.

Option 2: Create the address as a shared mailbox

I recommend this option if you would like to send and reply using the new address:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center > Go to Teams and groups > Shared mailboxes > Select Add a shared mailbox.
    • Enter a mailbox name such as General Inquiries.
    • Enter the new address using your business domain.
    • Save the mailbox.
    • Add your business account as a member.
    • Afterward, you can access the shared mailbox and send replies that display the shared address as the sender.

Note: A standard shared mailbox doesn't require an additional license unless it exceeds shared mailbox limits.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
