    Hello,

Since OneDrive pauses for a few different reasons, I just need a bit more info to figure out what is triggering it.

Which exact setting did you turn off, the battery saver or the metered connection one? If you are on a laptop, check if the main Windows battery saver is active right now because that can override the app. Same goes for your network, sometimes Windows Wi-Fi settings default to calling your connection metered which forces the pause.

Let me know what you see there, and also if those open Notepad files are saved directly inside the OneDrive folder since active files can sometimes hang the sync process.

OneDrive can pause automatically when Windows detects a metered network or enables battery saver, so open the OneDrive activity panel to identify and override the specific automatic pause.

    Check the reported pause reason

    1. Select the white or blue OneDrive cloud in the taskbar notification area.
    2. Read the message at the top of the activity panel.
    3. If it reports battery saver or a metered network, select the alert or Sync anyway to resume.

OneDrive documents both conditions as automatic pause triggers, separate from manually choosing Pause syncing. ^1^

Then open OneDrive cloud icon → Help & Settings (gear) → Settings → Sync and back up → Preferences. Review the preferences for syncing on battery saver and metered networks. If more than one OneDrive cloud appears, check the personal account’s icon because each account has separate settings. ^2^

    Also check Windows itself:

    • Turn off Battery saver/Energy saver temporarily.
    • Open the properties for the active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection and check whether Metered connection is enabled.
    • Resume OneDrive from its activity panel and confirm that its status changes to Up to date.

    About the open Notepad files

Having several files open in Notepad should not normally pause the entire OneDrive client. If Notepad has an individual file locked, OneDrive may be unable to sync that file until it is saved and closed; it should then sync automatically. ^3^

    As a quick test:

    1. Save and close the Notepad files stored inside OneDrive.
    2. Select the OneDrive cloud.
    3. Check whether it names one of those files as blocked, or whether the whole client still says Paused.

If it pauses again without naming battery saver, metered networking, or a file

    Reset the Windows sync client:

    1. Press Windows+R.
    2. Enter:
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    1. Wait a few minutes.
    2. If OneDrive does not reopen, select Start, search for OneDrive, and open it.

A reset does not delete OneDrive files, but it resets OneDrive settings, disconnects its sync connections, and initiates a full synchronization. Any previous selective folder choices may need to be configured again. ^4^

If it still pauses, note the exact message displayed at the top of the OneDrive activity panel; that message distinguishes an automatic Windows pause from a stuck file or sync-client problem.
