OneDrive embedded PowerPoint shows blank frame - odsp.react.lib-8e01e1f0.js returns 404 on res-1.cdn.office.net

I'm seeing the same issue, and it is still happening as of November 2, 2026.

OneDrive embedded PowerPoint (generated via PowerPoint for the web > File > Share > Embed) loads a blank frame. The browser console shows:

GET https://res-1.cdn.office.net/files/sp-client/odsp.react.lib-8e01e1f0.js net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)

Uncaught Error: Script error for "odsp.react.lib"

(requirejs.org/docs/errors.html#scripterror)

What I've tried:

  • Generated fresh embed code for two different PowerPoint files, from two different personal Microsoft accounts. Same error each time.
  • Tested in Chrome incognito (no extensions) and in a minimal HTML page. Same error.
  • Sharing is set to "Anyone with the link can view".
  • Other embeds load fine in the same page, so the page and its settings are not the problem.

The embed viewer seems to reference a JavaScript file that the CDN no longer serves. This matches other reports in this and related threads since around August 21, 2026.

Could someone from Microsoft confirm whether this is a known issue, and whether there is an ETA for a fix? A workaround would also help, since the Office viewer (view.officeapps.live.com) appears to be having problems too.

Environment: Windows, Chrome, personal OneDrive accounts.

    Hi, @Magenthiran S

    Thanks for the detailed report. Your testing already shows this isn't caused by your page, browser or files.

    This looks like a recurrence of an incident from late August. Around August 21, 2026, OneDrive EmbedView started requesting an odsp.react.lib-*.js bundle (a different hash at the time) that the CDN no longer served. That caused the same blank frames for Word, Excel and PowerPoint embeds. Microsoft hasn't published an ETA. Last time, though, the fix was made on Microsoft's side and nothing had to change on users' pages.

    Here are a few other options while you wait:

    Report it where the OneDrive product team is already active Reply on the Tech Community thread where the August fix was confirmed: OneDrive embedded PowerPoint slides showing blank page or error. Mention that the problem has come back with odsp.react.lib-8e01e1f0.js. You can also add your details to the newer thread about the recurrence: Embedding Word/Excel files from OneDrive into a webpage via iframes stopped working. A product manager has engaged on that board before, so a report there may reach the right people faster than a general support case.

    Send in-product feedback In OneDrive on the web, open Help & Settings > Feedback. In PowerPoint for the web, use Help > Feedback. Describe the 404 and include the timestamp. This feedback goes to the product teams, not to the support queue.

    Check the service status page Microsoft's OneDrive known-issues article points to the Service Health portal for Office Online services. Check it when you're testing, so you know whether an incident has been posted before you change your page again.

    Export the deck as a video and host it outside OneDrive In desktop PowerPoint, go to File > Export > Create a Video. Upload the MP4 to YouTube (unlisted works), Vimeo, or your own site with a <video> tag. Unlike static images, this keeps your transitions, animations and narration. Don't host the video on OneDrive personal, because OneDrive's embed player may have the same problem.

    Convert the deck to a Sway and embed that In Sway, use Create > Start from a document and import the .pptx. Then use Share > Get embed code. Sway generates its own embed code, separate from the OneDrive embed viewer. Slide layouts get reflowed into Sway's format, so this works better for content-heavy decks than for design-heavy ones. Also, don't embed the OneDrive PowerPoint inside a Sway card. That would load the same broken viewer.

    When the fix rolls out, your original embed code should start working again without any changes, as it did in August.

    Hope this helps.

    The actionable workaround is to replace the failing iframe temporarily with a direct OneDrive view/download link and report the missing odsp.react.lib-8e01e1f0.js dependency to Microsoft Support, because no public fix ETA is currently documented.

    The 404 prevents OneDrive EmbedView from loading a required Microsoft-hosted JavaScript dependency, so the viewer cannot initialize and displays a blank frame. The same failure pattern has been reported with other hashed versions of odsp.react.lib on res-1.cdn.office.net.^1^

    Your tests across files, personal accounts, Incognito, and minimal HTML already rule out the usual stale embed, extension, and host-page explanations. The embed was also generated through Microsoft’s documented PowerPoint for the web → File → Share → Embed this Presentation workflow.^2^

    Current status

    • Public Microsoft-hosted reports document this blank-frame/CDN-404 pattern and reports specifically involving personal OneDrive PowerPoint embeds.^3^
    • The evidence is consistent with an EmbedView service/CDN regression rather than a problem in your HTML.
    • There is no publicly verified Microsoft incident notice, resolution date, or ETA for this exact dependency failure as of November 2, 2026.^1^
    • Do not hard-code another odsp.react.lib-*.js hash or host a copied Microsoft bundle yourself. Those are internal, versioned viewer dependencies and are not a durable workaround.

    Practical workarounds

    1. Link to the presentation outside an iframe.
      In OneDrive, select the presentation → Share → Copy link, retaining view-only access. Replace the iframe with a normal link or button that opens the presentation in a new tab. PowerPoint for the web officially supports sharing a view-only link.^4^
         <p>The embedded viewer is temporarily unavailable.</p>
         <a href="PASTE-YOUR-ONEDRIVE-SHARING-LINK-HERE"
            target="_blank"
            rel="noopener noreferrer">
           Open the presentation in PowerPoint for the web
         </a>

    2. Offer a downloadable alternative.
      PowerPoint for the web supports downloading a local copy as PowerPoint, PDF, ODP, or slide images. A PDF is generally the simplest read-only fallback.^5^
    3. For static public display, export slides as images.
      Publish the images through your normal website hosting and optionally link them to the live presentation. This avoids both OneDrive EmbedView and view.officeapps.live.com, but animations, audio, video, and automatic synchronization are lost.

    Escalate with diagnostic evidence

    For a personal account, open Contact Microsoft Support, enter Microsoft 365, choose Get Help → Contact Support, sign in, and select Microsoft 365 and Office → Technical Support → Chat with a support agent in your web browser. This escalation path is also given in the matching Q&A resolution.^1^

    Include:

    • Product: personal OneDrive, PowerPoint for the web EmbedView.
    • Exact failed URL and HTTP status: odsp.react.lib-8e01e1f0.js, HTTP 404.
    • UTC timestamp and time zone.
    • The generated iframe src with account- or file-identifying tokens redacted.
    • A Network HAR capture and Console export from a reproduction.
    • Confirmation that two files and two personal accounts fail in Chrome Incognito and minimal HTML.
    • Confirmation that direct OneDrive access works, if it does.
    • Reference to the matching OneDrive EmbedView/CDN reports and request escalation to the OneDrive/Office EmbedView service team.

    Only Microsoft Support can confirm whether the failure maps to an active internal incident and provide an account-specific status or ETA.
