Verify that your wife accepted the Microsoft 365 Family invitation with her own Microsoft account and that the subscription benefit appears on that same account before troubleshooting any individual OneDrive app.
1. Verify her Family subscription and OneDrive entitlement
- On your account, open the Microsoft 365 sharing page:
https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing - Confirm that your wife appears as an active member—not Pending invite.
- If pending, resend the invitation.
- She must select Get started, then Join now, using the Microsoft account she intends to use for OneDrive.
- If she belongs to another Microsoft family group, she must leave it before joining yours. [^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Share your Microsoft 365 subscription | Microsoft Support")
- Have her sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services and confirm Microsoft 365 Family is listed as shared with her.
- Using that exact account, open https://account.microsoft.com/storage and check whether the expected storage entitlement appears.
- If the invitation was accepted recently, allow up to two hours, refresh Manage storage, and check again. [^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Troubleshoot sharing a Microsoft 365 subscription")
- In the OneDrive mobile app, select the profile picture or Me and verify that the account shown is the same personal Microsoft account. Add the correct personal account if a different personal, work, or school account is selected. ^3^
Microsoft 365 Family gives each member a separate OneDrive account; it does not automatically grant your wife access to your files. Each person’s files remain private. If the error occurs only when she opens files belonging to you, share those specific files or folders with her from your OneDrive. 2. If her own OneDrive is denied everywhere
Because the error occurs on the website, desktop application, and phone, it is unlikely to be only a Windows client installation problem.
Check these account-level conditions:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account dashboard with her credentials. If that fails, resolve the Microsoft account sign-in problem first. ^4^
- Check storage for an Account frozen or over-quota message. A OneDrive account can be frozen after remaining above its allowance for three months or after a long period without signing in. If frozen, reduce storage usage; changes can take up to 24 hours, and Microsoft advises contacting Support if it remains frozen after 48 hours. ^5^
- Test once in an InPrivate/InPrivate browser window at https://onedrive.live.com. If access is still denied there, the issue is tied to her account or OneDrive service rather than saved browser credentials.
If her subscription and storage are correct but her own OneDrive still returns Access Denied on every platform, contact Microsoft Support through the Get Help app in Windows or the Microsoft Support contact flow. Ask Support to check OneDrive provisioning for her Microsoft account; do not post the account address or diagnostic identifiers publicly.
3. Only if web and mobile start working but Windows still fails
For Windows-specific error 0x80070005, Microsoft documents an OneDrive update procedure:
- Open Start, type Updates, and select Check for updates.
- Install all available Windows updates.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\update
- Run OneDriveSetup.exe to install the latest OneDrive version. ^3^
The Group Policy fix listed for the same code applies specifically to Known Folder Move in OneDrive for work or school, not Microsoft 365 Family, so it is not applicable here.
