KB5127936 (build 26300.9818) breaks smooth Magnifier mouse tracking and zoom animation

After installing the optional preview update KB5127936 (OS build 26300.9818, Windows 11 26H2), Windows Magnifier became noticeably less smooth. Uninstalling the update fixes the problem right away.

Symptoms

  • Mouse tracking: When moving the mouse while zoomed in, the magnified view no longer follows smoothly. It jumps or “teleports” several times as the pointer moves, which is jarring and very noticeable.
  • Zoom changes: Changing the zoom level no longer animates smoothly. It snaps instantly to the new zoom level.

What I’ve checked

  • I didn’t change any Magnifier settings before or after installing the update.
  • Windows animation effects are still turned on. Turning them off and back on doesn’t help.

Reproduction

  1. Install KB5127936 and restart.
  2. Turn on Magnifier in full-screen view and zoom in.
  3. Move the mouse around and change the zoom level. Movement jumps and zoom snaps instantly.
  4. Uninstall KB5127936 and restart. Smooth mouse tracking and zoom animation are restored.

Environment

  • Windows 11 Pro 26H2
  • With KB5127936: OS build 26300.9818 (issue present)
  • After uninstalling KB5127936: OS build 26300.9711 (issue gone)
  • Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.372.0
  • Magnifier view: Full screen
  • Monitor: 1 × 1920×1080, 144 Hz
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, driver [version]

Expected behavior: Magnifier pans and zooms smoothly, as it did before KB5127936.

Actual behavior: Panning jumps and zoom changes snap instantly.

This seems related to the Magnifier changes in this update, such as per-monitor zoom, viewport locking and the contrast theme. Since this update’s changes will be included in the November 10 security update, I’d like to know whether Microsoft is aware of this regression and plans to fix it before then.

Thank you!

The animation will be fixed if you go to the Magnifier settings and turn off -

"Zoom each display independently"

Thanks for the detailed comparison. Since uninstalling KB5127936 restores smooth tracking and zoom, your testing strongly suggests a regression introduced by this update.

I couldn’t find a public Microsoft acknowledgment of this specific issue or a confirmed fix for November 10. It isn’t currently listed in the update’s known issues or Windows release-health page.

For now, I’d skip reinstalling this optional preview. Please press Win + F >> Report a problem and include your reproduction steps, both build numbers, and exact NVIDIA driver version. You can submit this from your working build.

No public Microsoft release note currently confirms this Magnifier regression or promises a fix before November 10, so remain on build 26300.9711 for now and submit a Feedback Hub report with the exact build-to-build comparison.

KB5127936 does introduce substantial Magnifier changes—contrast themes, per-monitor zoom enabled by default, and viewport locking—but its published notes do not list degraded full-screen tracking or removed zoom animation as a known issue or intended behavior.^1^

    Current Microsoft status

    As of October 28, 2026:

    • The Windows 11 26H2 release-health page does not list this Magnifier problem.
    • Its KB5127936 entry concerns a resolved Remote Desktop issue, not Magnifier.
    • Therefore, there is no public confirmation that Microsoft is tracking this particular regression or that a correction will be included in the November security update.^2^

Your controlled comparison is nevertheless strong evidence of an update-specific regression:

    • 26300.9818: problem present.
    • 26300.9711: problem absent.
    • Same Magnifier and animation settings.
    • One monitor, so the documented multi-monitor viewport-locking workflow should not be active.

This establishes correlation with KB5127936, but the public information does not establish whether per-monitor zoom, another Magnifier component change, or an unrelated component in the cumulative update is responsible.

    Submit a diagnostic report

    1. Press Windows key + F to open Feedback Hub.
    2. Search for reports containing terms such as:
      • KB5127936 Magnifier tracking
      • 26300.9818 Magnifier animation
      • Magnifier teleporting
    3. If a matching Problem exists, select Upvote and Give similar feedback. Otherwise, select Give new feedback.
    4. Use a precise title, for example: KB5127936 build 26300.9818 causes jerky full-screen Magnifier tracking and removes zoom animation
    5. Include:
      • Before: build 26300.9711, smooth.
      • After: build 26300.9818, jerky tracking and instant zoom.
      • Full-screen Magnifier, one 1920×1080 144-Hz display.
      • GPU and exact NVIDIA driver version.
      • Animation effects remained enabled.
      • Uninstalling KB5127936 immediately restored normal behavior.
    6. If prepared to reproduce it again, install the preview, open Feedback Hub, select Recreate my problem, start recording, reproduce both pointer tracking and zoom changes, and then stop recording and submit. Feedback Hub can include screenshots and diagnostic data with the report.^3^
    7. Save the Feedback Hub link and share it in this Q&A thread so other affected users can add matching telemetry instead of creating fragmented reports.

Reinstalling solely to capture diagnostics is optional; staying on the working build is preferable if Magnifier is required for accessibility.

    Temporary mitigation

Since uninstalling KB5127936 already restored smooth behavior, no further settings reset, animation toggle, driver reinstall, or Magnifier reconfiguration is indicated by the available evidence.

Remain on build 26300.9711 until either:

    • Windows Release Health acknowledges the issue,
    • the Feedback Hub report receives an update, or
    • a later update can be tested safely.

The supported uninstall path is Settings → Windows Update → Update history → Uninstall updates → KB5127936 → Uninstall, followed by a restart.^4^

Before installing the November security update, preserve the Feedback Hub report and note the current working build. If the regression returns, add the new OS build and reproduction result to the same feedback item. The future update’s behavior cannot be confirmed until Microsoft publishes its release notes or ships the build.
