Additional Microsoft Entra services and features related to identity, access, and network security
Request a Microsoft support escalation for an incorrect Microsoft Entra GeoIP mapping; the displayed state cannot be edited on the Azure Public IP resource itself.
Submit the correction
- In the Azure portal, open Help + support and select Create a support request.
- Choose the issue area closest to Microsoft Entra ID sign-in logs/security reporting.
- State that the request is for a back-end GeoIP mapping correction, not an Azure resource-region change.
- Include:
- The affected public IP address or CIDR range.
- The location currently shown in Entra ID → Monitoring & health → Sign-in logs.
- The correct city, state/region, and country.
- Recent sign-in timestamps and correlation IDs.
- Evidence from the ISP or IP registry showing the correct assignment.
- Results from major GeoIP databases and details of any corrections already accepted by them.
- Avoid posting the IP address or tenant details publicly; provide them through the support case’s private channel.
- After Microsoft confirms the update, generate a new sign-in and check the latest Entra sign-in record.
Matching Entra cases were resolved only after Microsoft’s engineering or product team updated the IP-location mapping on the back end.^1^ This also applies where external GeoIP providers already show the correct location but Microsoft continues to show an outdated one.^2^
Do not change the Azure resource region
The Azure Public IP resource’s Location is its Azure deployment region, not an editable real-world GeoIP city or state. Azure assigns static addresses from the available pool in the location where the resource is created; the specific address cannot be selected.^3^
Public IP addresses also cannot be moved between Azure regions.^4^ Therefore, recreating or relocating the resource is not the appropriate correction for an incorrect location in Entra sign-in logs and could change the address, requiring updates to DNS, firewalls, and external integrations.
If this is not Entra sign-in logs
If the incorrect state appears in a third-party website rather than Microsoft Entra:
- Identify which GeoIP database that service uses.
- Submit the correction to that provider; MaxMind, for example, has a public correction process.^5^
- If multiple third-party providers are already correct but a Microsoft service remains wrong, continue with the Microsoft support escalation above. Similar Azure cases required the product team to correct the mapping from the back end.^6^
